Well I hope you went today sensible........following the BBC stats we outplayed them with shots on goal..... allowing them only two goal chances. BUT the stats also said that they had the ball most of the time. I'm dreading Fletchers comments, because he will be very please with the performance if his past record is anything to go on. It didn't please me to predict the correct score........I just cannot see how we are going to score any goals at all. Who knows anything at PAFC regarding goal scoring strategy,to be able to coach the basics to our totally lost forewards, it obvious that they havn't got 10% of Bradley Wright Phillips goal scoring ability....and they probably worked twice as hard as Bradley would of to get knowhere.
Possesion... Argyle 29%.....Aldershot 71%.......that says to me that we had no control whatsoever of mid-field,... was that correct sensible ?
Absolutely no it wasn't plym. Cole had no saves to make in the whole match. They scored the first which was a fair enough goal. The second was a penalty which was never ever a penalty. Not green tints it just wasn't. Apart from that they had no attempts. We had attempts, probably more than they did but we didn't score which to be fair wasn't a surprise. Possession was about 50/50 all match. It was sadly same old same old Argyle. Ball in the air and winning nothing much up front. No particular threat in front of goal. Huff and plenty of puff on a very humid aftternoon without threatening anything. It is a fact that these were pretty much the same bunch as last term and it is a sad fact that they are not going to set the world alight. The irony is for the first goal, I said to one of my mates when they got the free kick that this was our nemesis last season from that position. Bleddy true to form they conceeded. Apart from that Aldershot looked very ordinary. So did we.
Fletcher said that "Argyle had most of the play".......yet the stats showed that Aldershot had 71% of possession.....both can't be right can they....what is the truth ?
Makes no difference about the stats, we lost and that is it. I can't be doing the stats as they are always a poor reflection of what really happens.
Fletcher reckons that "goals change games".......he's starting to learn.......now tell your strikers that.
I already said it was about 50/50 plym. We had more shots than them by far although most of them were pants. I think you will find that the stats on the Beeb are sections of the game and not the game as a whole. For example the first 15 minutes you have most of play and stats show 60 - 40 or whatever. Second 15 minutes shown seperately and if play changes and they have majority, say 45 - 55 then it shows that and not a mean average of the two sections which would be 53 - 47.
Any positives from this? Going to have a look at the highlights in a minute if there are any. Still could be worse at least we are above Exeter, been a while since we could say that!!!
The possession stats reflect 10 minute segments, they aren't cumulative and the final set are indicative only of the last 10 minutes, not the game as a whole. Plymborn is right, the BBC stats showed I think only one 10 minute spell of 50:50, the rest of the time Aldershot had a huge possession advantage - at times of the order of 20:80 in their favour; the worst I've ever seen it even in the darkest days of the last few seasons. I have to say that didn't at all tie up with what fans at the game were saying on Twitter, where there were times when they felt we had Aldershot under the cosh, even though no goals were produced. How you explain that I don't know: perhaps Aldershot's reported time wasting had something to do with it. I'd guess the production of the the stuff the Beeb carries for the news wires is a pretty cheap & cheerful affair - how else could they cover every single league game? I imagine they have their coats on at about 80 minutes as the commentary usually leaves you hanging with no details at all from about 85 mins to the end of the game. All in all, a very very disappointing start with 3 out of the next 4 away...... I'm especially disappointed we conceded a headed goal from a free kick. You can't do much about the 30 yard scorcher or the sudden mazy run but defending dead balls should be bread & butter stuff. It was a real Achilles heel prior to the Purse/Blanchard partnership. We'll be in real trouble if we start leaking those goals again.
Maybe the optimistic fans notDistant were pasoti yesmen....they do know how to whip them into line......and it sounds listening to the rumours that their King.....Mr Newell will be rewarded soon for his allegiance to the cause by being elevated to higher things.
Firstly Plymborn, there are far more posters on Twitter during a game than there are here at any time. There is a good sprinkling of the Green Tinted Glasses Brigade, which is right & proper: we are after all meant to be fans and that does imply a bit of blind loyalty. There are also those of what you might call the FFS Argyle tendency. Presumably it's a fairly representative sample and I see no reason to think they are Pasoti Yes Men other than that they are Argyle fans and Pasoti is, like it or not, the biggest fan site. More importantly, they were there, we weren't. Sensible has said that we were a bit better than the stats suggest but admittedly not good enough. I'll take his word on that.
From all accounts it does look like pretty much how we left off last season, early days yet I know but not filled with hope and seems to confirm my suspicions that not enough was done pre-season. No new players that excite or whip-up interest or give an air of confidence to the long suffering long-term fans. As I said it's only the first game but very quicky teams shuffle into the part of the league where they are often stuck, Argyle fans do not need another relegation scrap - there have been far too many of those in recent times.
...there is a plus..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Exeter lost, 3-0
Mrs LaLa did you hear about the plane that flew over Exeter's ground trailing a banner saying "we'll meet again---PAFC".... during the match.......supposed to be a pasoti prank.
Mrs LaLa Hvae you done your predictions for Tuesday? You need to as you have only missed one game, i will give you half my points so you can catch up? I bet you want to?? Come on the more the merrier.
There is absolutely no way that Aldershot had the majority of play. Tis true they had the absolute spanking majority of time wasting for which the Ref did nothing at all. On one occasion it took 2 minutes to get one of their's to pick the ball up for a throw in never mind actually taking it. But they were 1 - 0 up at the time and in no hurry and got away with what they were allowed to do. Incidentally my son says that he saw the penalty decision again and he thinks it was nailed on so I will concede that one although I thought their player went between our's and nobody got to the ball at all. Some of our football wasn't half bad possession and passing wise. It is the final third and getting into scoring positions that we lacked anything. The first goal against was a joke. Anyone who went to Argyle last season, especially early on, would have seen plenty of those identically conceeded. It really was a carbon copy. I'd like to find a positive out of the game but sorry chaps and chapesses I can't. They need to learn something new and learn it fast.
Plym, no didn't hear about that and if it's true I would've thought pasoti had better things to put their money into. Joe, aww that is really sweet of you but I'm giving the predictions a miss this time round - it's no great loss is it, they were never much good
Yes it is important. There needs to be at least one person who is duffer than me at it. I can't count on Gat as she bust a record this week.
aldershot really did take any fun or enjoyment out of the game. cant stand thinking how much £ i waste on seeing football "played" like that. on the other hand fletch has given indication that we will be playing ugly to get results so shoe on the other foot we would have been having a right laugh. And yeah plym, this is the only picture i have been able to find. https://twitter.com/IJN3/status/236955842157633536/photo/1 ... pretty funny. roll on 15th december!
