Just seen this article in the Sun - so it must be true!! http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...ocalypse-if-they-are-relegated-from-Prem.html. I know none of them are the type of players Lambert would consider signing, but think this demonstrates the greed of some footballers, rather than their desire to play for a team.
as much as rangers fans seem to hold some kind of grudge against us, i'd be worried if that story was true. lets hope its not or they will probably go bust
Reckless and pitiful if true. If they'd hit the top six this season you could maybe forgive an "oversight" but they've struggled all season. I saw on twitter last week that Pompey still have to find £36k a week for Ben Haim and £20k for Kitson - if true, this helps explain their plight and is - or at least should be a warning to other clubs not to make the same naïve mistakes.
I remember the "we need to sign players with premier league experience" lot No, we just need to buy good players. And we did, and I'll bet we will continue to do so.
I heard somewhere over the weekend that Grant Holt is on 17k a week, and I'm guessing he's probably the top earner so I'd imaginbe our wage bill is somewhere in the region of a tenth of Koo Pee Arr's
Yes, I do indeed remember 'carrabuh' on "12 Yards" - he would have loved to have signed barton, SWP et al given half a chance. It's a pity he's disappeared/using a different username (Could he be 'Ged Steroo' on the EDP website and leaving comments such as - 'Lambert out???), even if just to say he had been proved wrong and that PL was a shrewd judge of a player's qualities. Totally agree with your post Beef.
Good players with a good attitude can take the club an awfully long way. It would be madness for us to sign a couple of big-name charlies in the summer, destroying our wage structure and the morale of the rest of the squad. I know it is hard to sympathise with someone of £15k or so a week but how would our senior players feel if after all their work a newbie comes to Colney on double their money. Not a good scenario.
But surely we tried all that last time when Worthy was in charge? Svennson ( though I quite liked him) Helveg and Mattias Jonson. Scandinavians, with some international experience, and presumably fat wages to justify that. And players whose careers were on the wane - rather than most of Lambert's recruits, like Pilks, R Bennett, E Bennett, Ayala, who will improve by playing at this level.
Reckless to say the least! They may well have a small squad if they go down and can't sell some of their prize idiots (whoops I meant assets)
I agree and if I had to pick one of our new recruits who has really impressed me, I think I would plump for Pilkington. I hope he stays at Carrow Road for a few more years and doesn't get lured away by one of the 'big clubs'. IMO, PL has got the balance just right and I'm sure we'll see quite a different starting 11 when we take to the field at St James' Park (or whatever it's called nowadays!!!)
