Early days I know but it begs the question as to whether you think we are there yet.

For many years now we have been hearing from a succession of managers that a major overhaul of the playing squad was needed to make us more competitive. Well we all know what happened to those promises, which never happened for whatever reasons, and now we are in to a new season with all the same promises made during the summer so it leads to my question as to whether we are there yet.

After a promising new start in the Championship under GJ things fell apart in a somewhat disorganised fashion and we almost ended up in neverneverland but fate dictated otherwise. Lots of enthusiasm returned to the City fanbase when Derek arrived and yet we still almost made the plunge to the lower echelons, but now we have a second shot at redeeming ourselves and getting back most of the supporters who disappeared, for varying reasons, over those years. Regrettably I was unable to listen to the game vs Palace as my computer modem crashed and I had to wait a week to get it replaced by my internet provider but I did manage to find a local wi-fi hotspot in a restaurant. I didn't think it correct to subject the other patrons to a commentary from AG so I took the alternative option of going to live text on the beeb sport and when we left after about 30 minutes the score was 2-0 to City (what?) and I had to wait to get my computer back and running before I got the final result. Now in previous years I would have expected City to lose 2-3 with the winning goal scored in added time at the end so you can imagine my delight at seeing that we just went on and consolidated our superiority to win 4-1 (what?).

Tomorrow we have one of our nemeses with Cardiff daring to come across the bridge expecting no less than 3 points and under earlier regimes we might have justed folded up the tent and gone home with our tails between our legs saying that we were just not good enough and all the other lame excuses. I know it's just one game in a long season and that we shouldn't put too much emphasis in to it at this early stage of the campaign and I see a lot of us are trying to downplay this vital match. Try telling that to our new boss and he will probably rip your head off at the same time as shoving a large quantity of haggis where your sun don't shine and he would probably be the first to admit that the rebuild is ongoing.

So back to the main thought of my thread and that is a general overview of Bristol City and what has transpired so far since the installation of Derek McInnes as our new boss. I like the cut of his jib and he impresses me with his overall demeanour, professionalism and footballing acumen but only his, and the team's, performances will be the ultimate decider as to whether he can get the job done so when the New Year arrives we can make up our minds on his tenancy at AG. I have said from the start that I had read a lot of information on him and although he was the dark horse for the job there was something that I saw that I liked and that was the respect he commanded from all of his peers.

The question still remains as to whether we are there yet and I'm sure the answers will be very diverse and yet positive and if you're on my page then you must think that Derek is the man and that he will get us there. Huge crowd tomorrow please and add my roars to yours to help move along the road to respectability. Ashton Gate hasn't been our fortress for many years and the time is now to show any oppostion that coming to our place and expecting three points is a thing of the past.
