who give a good reception to former players???? i remember this season, johnson, burke and to a lesser extent mccormack all got good receptions when reading out the team line ups, and the crowd chanted 'do the ayatollah' to them... other clubs seem to automatically give abuse and boo former players, no matter how much they were committed to the cause when they were previously playing for them........ saying that, i wonder what reception jonesy will get? i for one will clap him, wouldnt cross my mind to boo him, unlike swansea fans who seem to really hate rodgers and martinez, despite the excellent work both did for the club.
A very positive point Swamp. I'm sure there will be a few exceptions but on the whole the minimum a returning player seems to get is polite applause or a bit of banter. As for DJ, I hope he gets a warm reception. I think he run out of ideas and got a bit desperate towerds the end, but he took over at a difficult time and help stabilise us in the division. MM took over a very thin squad as DJ inherited, but for different reasons. DJ as he was forced to sell because of the financial position, MM becasue of the number of loanees and expiring contracts. Both brought in a number of journeymen and with good organisation and effort, punched above their weight. They both then added to the quality, MM more quickly than DJ because of the available funding. Lets continue to demonstrate how returning staff should be treated. I'm sure visiting managers don't like their players head slapping though.
Of course DJ should get a good reception at CCS. While he took us as far as he could he did so under very tough circumstances mostly with little financial support. It was his time to leave and effectively he passed the baton on to Malky. The difference between us and Swansea is that DJ was sacked whereas Martinez and Rodgers moved on to what they perceived were bigger and better things - and more money of course. I guess that is why they are disliked by Swans fans. The only former player I can recall from the recent past who gets a hard time from us is Gunter. While we sold him as we needed the cash rather than him wanting to go but I think he said a few things which have alienated him from the fans. With DJ on 2nd December should be Bothroyd. Again I can't imagine us giving him a hard time unless he says/does something disrespectful. Darcy will follow and again he should get a good reception. We're just a bunch of softies really.
To many flaws in your argument regarding us to even contemplate responding swamp. So ill just give you a
Swamp, hate is a big word fella. We don't hate Buck nor Martinez, but nobody can expect to give Buck a good reception when he returns. The way he said "Once a Jack, always a Jack", and then took a giant **** on us was unforgivable. Martinez recieved a good reception today, and rightly so. He left under a cloud but people have moved on. He's twice the man Buck is.
That a fair enough statement. We're yet to have a manager who has left us for a bigger club. Well recently. Wonder what the last one was and the reception he got at Ninian?
difference between mackay and jones is that whenever jones found a quality player he had to be sold, malky can keep the top class players and build around them, and thats how successful teams tend to operate. as for bothroyd, i appreciate he was a quality player for us but i really dont understand why anyone wants him back, what has he dont in the past 15 months? i think he'll get a good reception as do almost all ex city players that return, you dont get that at most clubs and that shows the sort of fans we are.......
Jones had to sell the odd player. Not every quality one. Millions of pounds worth of talent were allowed to leave for free. Im sure he will get a good reception though.
