Far be it from me tempt fate, but after the Chelsea result and our rocket up the table, do u think we can (hesitantly) start considering us safe?

No way. I think Reading and QPR are pretty much dead and buried but whilst Wigan and villa are still in touch it makes it very interesting. Also not sure what di Canio can do for Sunderland

Forget our position, we are 4 points from the drop with 21 to play for.

If we were to win our next two games, I would consider us safe. As things stand now-- no, not even close.

Nope, we're not, but if we go down I will be astounded. I just hope we're safe before the Sunderland game.

You are all being extremely careful. We are not actually safe, but probably only need 2 wins from seven games. We are this high up the table because of actual points, GD and goals scored. We are playing well and there are several teams in the mix. I can see us falling down the table one week then rising back up the next, but cannot see the strange series of events that would make all the teams above 19th spot rise above us. Saying this will not curse us.

Agree Fran. Realitically Reading and QPR are now both 4 wins behind us so that leaves just one spot. Our advantage is that we have played most of the teams down there. Wigan have to still face QPR and Villa. All those sides have too many 6 pointers.

No, but we're one result from being pretty safe. If we beat Reading, we'll be on 37 points, with a goal differential that bests that of the competition...we still won't be guaranteed a spot in the Prem next year, but it'd take something truly unusual for us to go down.

    Not safe yet but close
I recon we are probably two wins away from safety however with the remaining fixture list a d our present good form I am very confident in not only staying up but finishing mid table

Starting with Reading...let's beat this idea that we can't beat the teams at the bottom.

Although we need to grind Reading into the dust, I have to say that watching them lose with Nigel at the helm gives me no pleasure. Let's hope NA has a good season with them next year.

Still a lot of water to flow under the Itchen Bridge before we are safe, whatever fate throws at us, anything 17th or above will suit me, anything above that will be a bonus, job done.

No, not safe yet. I recall Harry Hou saying a few weeks ago that 35-36 points would be enough to stay up - that won`t save him !

Yep, reading game is crucial in terms of whether we can chill out for the rest of the season.
Win and you'd suspect we'll be six points clear of the drop with a better goal difference. (Essentially 3 results above our rivals with 6 to play).
Lose and it's back to nervous glances and a bit of pressure on the west ham game.

Nervous is the fall back position for a Saints fan. I was the calmest I have ever been on Saturday...not because I thought we were certain to win, but because I know we will win enough games if we carry on playing as we are at the moment. Only got nervous near the end when we had three points in our hands.

.... And in the same vein as your last sentence, we have safety in our hands...

So with Fulham playing 'arry's mob today what is the desired result? Are we still looking over our shoulders or do we want to finish above Fulham?
