Changes to inheritance laws in Scotland will now mean that spouses whose partner dies without leaving a will, will automatically get the first £473,000 from the estate, regardless of how many children there are from previous relationships and as far as I can tell, regardless of how long they've been married. Imagine you have a young family, marry someone who isn't the parent of your children, then you die in an accident without having written a will, your kids have no legal right to anything unless you leave nearly half a million pounds, a Thai bride, someone you marry while pissed in Vegas, or an out and out gold digger will get the lot. I know you're an idiot if you have dependents and you don't have a will stating all your wishes, but surely this is a totally cretinous law, created by people who simply don't understand that kids are the greatest responsibility every parent has? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-16815898
