It's a question I ask myself a lot. All we seem to see is a production line of averagely talented individuals and bands pumping out manufactured bubble gum pop. For me music is all about starting at the bottom and working your way up.. playing the crappy clubs in front of 3 punters and all of that. I may be a bit of a romantic but I firmly believe shows like the X Factor don't enhance the image of British music globally.
They aren't even talent competitions, they are purely entertainment shows. It's hard to believe that utter shi t like the X factor is still going. scary. The purist would fantasize about the slow-road, chiseling out the structure of your musical legacy in pubs, clubs, stadiums and bouncing their prose off satelites… the truth is that nowadays, because of the internet, the music market is saturated with all kinds of rubbish. Pop will eat itself and hopefully poop itself out of it's own backside. Or is that 'The Voice'?
It dilutes quality music at the expense of both genuine talent and the participants who are sold for the ratings they generate and their first single.
There are just so many talent shows now that it has become very boring and the people who go on them are quite blatanly looking for the fame and fortune other than for the music.
These 'talent shows' just become mind numbing 'entertainment' for TV addicts, but also keep genuinely original and talented artists suffocating for exposure. There's so much new music out there for everyone to enjoy. Never mind the garbage on daytime Radio 1,check out 6 music or similar

Do you mean the No Talent tv shows ? I would rather boil myself alive then listen to those pathetic opium for the masses TV shows. You never even get anyone playing a ****ing instrument.. See better bands in local pubs then on the tv. BGT.....But not on that **** show.
If you have talent then you are spotted or you work ****ing hard to get spotted. These joke shows are rubbish, take a couple of years ago the best talent in Britain was a dog and a young lass and, that's the best we could come up with. This from the country that gave us some of the best iconic bands around.
A stain even Vanish can't remove. Mindless f***ing sh*te. Pub karaoke at best. Anyone who likes this is too easily influenced. They'd buy dog turds if they thought it was cool.
The problem with a lot of the acts that get on X-Factor and the likes, is they have a get rich quick outlook and aren't prepared to do the hard work. Still plenty of good new music out there, along with old bands. But not so many places to play live. I actually think we've fell behind other European countries like Sweden.
