...............those we signed when we were last in the PL? This is an important question given how much the PL has moved on since we were last in it and our signings at the moment, although exciting, seem to be of players with potential rather than with proven PL experience. Can we afford to have a priod of learning or do we need to hit the ground running?
Didn't do Norwich too bad signing cherry-picked talent from the FL such as Johnson, Pilkington, Morison etc. Also Swansea started vs City with 0 PL apps amongst them! I am sure we will be fine, but we will need to cobble together some early results. Perhaps the opening fixtures provided aren't great, but, I'd rather lose 4 of the first 6 to City, United, Arsenal and Everton than have an average fist 6 and struggle through those.
Damn TSS you beat me to it. The magnificent record breaking Rory Decrap. In the short time that Stuart Gray was in charge he managed this gem of a signing. Thinking it was the Spanish star Horay De Lap he threw 4 million down the drain. These latest additions will have to go some way to show they are of the same calibre as Rory that's for sure. (I made that Spanish name up by the way)
Premier League experience csts a fortune. At least good experience does and we can do without the journeymen. K.Davis, Butterfield, S.Davis, Cork and Puncheon have all been there, so we're not going in blind.
As has Fox. I agree with what you say, S. Davis was a great coup for us. Experienced and just £800K.
Jay Rodriguez or Henri Camara... Steven Davis or Jamie Redknapp... Anyone or Calum Davenport... hmmmmmmm
Good points Godders. I have a little niggle in my head that keeps asking if we are looking a little naive. Perhaps Nigel is building the young talent pool up before bringing in a more experienced player to help them. I don't want a hasbeen but maybe one more slightly seasoned player would be good. Having said that, I admire Nigel's principle of sticking to his beliefs. I think the test will be if during September we have played 6 games and got 3 poi ts with others around us getting 6 or 7. In Nigel's time with us everything has been on the up. Surely it ant be like that for us in the Prem.
I still reckon that the side that was relegated was good enough to avoid that fate. It all came down to the manager and poor team confidence.
Forgotten about Steve Davis? Just the 51 international caps and 113 premier league appearances. I'd like maybe one more player in with top-level experience but think we've got a fair amount of experience already in the squad.
Shocked by the grammar, LeTiss, but the sentiment is right. I managed very few games that season but was at SMS for the Everton game and at Arsenal for the game where the ref kept playing until they scored. The 4 points lost there would have been handy.
The games we lost or drew can be quantified and counted, therefore it should be the number of games we lost or drew rather than the amount of games we won or drew. It's such a common error that nobody notices, and those who do normally don't care.
You also see 'less than' when referring to a number instead of 'fewer than' even on official notices. The only thing I have to say is that language is fluid and I expect things that make us scream now will be totally correct in a few decades.
