    The similarities must be frightening for Manchester United fans..

    A long time manager who has run the footballing side Sir Alex leaves the club (Curbs) and a young and highly regarded manager in Moyes is appointed to take his place (Dowie) this does not work as well as expected and the new manager is fired. At this point an experienced Club man in Giggs takes over (Uncle Les) for a short period... then an experienced manager takes over in Louis VG (Pardew) who fails to halt the slide.

    At this same time the long standing Chief Executive Officer of the Club David Gill also leaves the club (Varney) and an inexperienced Chief Exec is appointed Ed Woodward who has never worked in league football (Waggott) and struggles to make an impact.

    While all this is happening at the Club there are ownership issues which may effect finances in respect of Malcolm Glazier dying (Murray running out of money) and the knock on effect on the transfer policy.

    If I supported Manure I would be a worried man.

    <cheers>

    The club talks a good game in regards to transfers, but they've been building up a negative reputation for messing clubs around in negotiations (having talks without the intention of going through with the deal). I'd be worried if I were them, failure to capture a marquee signing in the next 9 days will have years of negative effect.

    The problem at United is the Glazers. They have hugely over- leveraged the Club to benefit their own bank balances. Until they are drummed out I cannot see United recovering.

    It was a great bit of timing for Alex Ferguson to get out of United when he did. When you look at the squad they are obviously not good enough. Smalling,Jones, Carrick, Welbeck, Nani, Valencia,Fletcher, Young are not good enough for a potential winner of the Premiership. Their signings have been ordinary, Shaw- one for the future, Rios- untested in this league and the Spanish midfielder looks decent but a bit lightweight. I can see United finishing outside the top four again. Clubs don't fear them anymore.

    Curbs did the same; he left an increasingly poor squad that only he could get the best out of.

    I still maintain that we only went down that season because of the opening defeat to West Ham and the tough run after that putting us on the backfoot (as well as the refereeing decisions at Home against Fulham!).

    We also had an iffy decision against the Wets when we were 1-0 up.... Traore being sent off was a Homer decision!

    Yeah and we spiralled from there! Didn't we have Man U shorlty after at home when Ronaldo had just returned from the 2006 World Cup, and then a defeat to Bolton if memory serves...

    Yup Man United was our first Home Game of the season if I remember rightly (Tuesday night)... Ronaldo was up against his first away opposition since coming back from the World Cup (After getting Rooney sent off), was heckled from start to finish from the stands and was probably the game that really started Cristiano Ronaldo cos he tore us to shreds.

    In regards to the original Question... Would say Manure are about to do a Liverpool, think comparing those sides is a better way of looking at it...
