So with less than a week before it starts all over again people seem to be building Liverpool up as though they're going to challenge the Manchesters, Chelsea and Arsenal and I don't understand why. Yes they've bought in some decent players, Adam, Downing, Henderson but would any of them get into one of last season's top 4 sides? I don't think so. Carroll and Suarez and both very good players and could form a lethal partnership but is Carroll really good enough (at the minute) to win the toughest league in the world? I don't think so. They have a decent defence but would Carragher, Agger, Aurelio or Johnson get into one of last season's top 4 sides. Again, I don't think so (well maybe Arsenal but then again I think I would get into that defence!) I do however think in a few years they'll be challenging should Henderson, Carroll and all of their promising academy graduates live up to expectations but not a hope this year IMO. So of course we're going to be underdogs as we're away at Anfield but I seriously reckon we could even nick a win on Saturday! We've had some decent results against the top sides in recent years, including the demolition of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last year, so why not on Saturday? Don't get me wrong I'd be happy with a point and if we get beat it's not the end of the world but we need to go into that game thinking we can win. Can't wait!! KTF
3rd or 4th for me. Really do think they have a good team this year. Suarez is gonna be top scorer, and their forgotten man Kuyt.
This with interest!! I think everyone looks at the amount of money they've spent and thinks they've bought class. Let's be honest - we all like Benderson but is he a top 4 player?? Suarez is class (one of the best in the league) but other than that they haven't really signed quality - if Glen Johnson is a worthy England RB then I'm a billionaire (Which I want to be... So freakin bad) They are not that much stronger than they were last season - Kenny took over a side struggling and had no pressure on him at all - no pressure = easy job. They have expectation this season but still have only really bought Henderson, Adams, Carroll (injury prone and still only managed to do it for half a season) and little else for over £100m - Henderson was woeful in the second half of last season but has ability undoubtedly - whether he's £20m worth is still a massive question. The only real improvement they have made (IMO) is Downing (this close season) as no-one else will massively improve their side - questionable whether he will as well
I think the top three will be 1/ Man United 2/ Man City 3/ Chelsea 4th, 5th & 6th will imo be a battle between Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs and any of them could finished in either position.
They'll fight Spurs for 5th, and i think they'll win. Arsenal will only be a couple of points ahead in 4th though, the gap is closing rapidly.
Chrlsea have a habit of sacking managers who dont win the league, so my advice to Boas is start reading the classified section or find your local unemployment office.
Liverpool have brought in a lot of players and if they gel from day one then they could hit 4th. However I've got a feeling they'll take 3 or 4 games to get going properly and will be fighting it out for 6th or 7th place again.
I reckon Torres will come good this season but still don't think they'll win the league. Villas-Boas MUST win the champions league or he's a gonner. As for who will win it I'm going for Man City just ahead of Man Utd. They've got players settled in now and a strikeforce potentially as good as any in the world with Tevez, Dzeko, Balotelli and Aguero! I think we're about to see a very good title race this year rather than a runaway team.
1. Man United 2. City 3. Chelsea (VERY CLOSE BETWEEN THE TOP THREE) 4. Liverpool/Arsenal (If arsenal lose nasri and Fab, then Liverpool) 5.Liverpool/Arsenal 6. Spurs
Crazy statement but so very true - Chelsea board and owner need to look at themselves and think about what they're doing with the club. Barcelona are streets ahead of everyone in this league so we really have very little chance of an English side winning the CL - I think Utd will win the league again and Barcelona the Champs League so Villas Boas will be a gonner...
Not title challengers but I do think they will take it to the wire for fourth spot, remember their form in the last third of last season, breath taking! I am really jelous of Liverpool, mainly because they have a left flank, what we do for a left winger like Downing and a left back like Enrique when he no doubt goes there. Adam will spray the balls out wide to the wingers, who will in turn whip it in for Carroll. I think Kenny has thought through his signings very carefully and his style of play is beginning to look clearer. Good thing for us is that its first game of the season and ANYTHING can happen in this fixture as we have seen in the last 2 seasons.
I think they're playing with City, Arsenal and Spurs in the 3/4/5/6 club. Utd and Chelsea top 2 again in my eyes!
