I ain't mocking but I can't see any other reason for the fact we got siggy and dempsey ... we have a very strict wage structure yet offered siggy more than you (according to the press) and the dempsey deal fell down over the matter of £1m. We spent £56m but raised over that in fee's received (Modric £30m, VdV £10.5m, Bassong £5.5m, Pienaar £4.5m, Corluka £5.5m, Kranjar £5.5m plus extra from loan signings) so it ain't like we are loaded and you are richer, pay higher wages yet seem skint. Like I said I aint wumming just curious.
We're not in financial trouble, the figures are quite promising in terms of FSG. However, with the overspending by Dalglish, I think FSG are very wary of the risk of overspending and high wages. They've said before that their 2 aims are getting us back to the top and making this club self sufficient; they see the potential in BR to start a new era with lower wages and more intelligent signings. That began at 11pm last night whether the fans are happy about it or not.
in case anyone failed to note FSG wrote of 50mil of G&H debt again this year (see end of year report published earleir inthe year) this aligned with seemingly losing every penny kenny spent it would seem we are bringing the ship to order STILL. best of luck with dempsey seeing he had one good year but is a nice free kick taker. suprised levy wanted him and know for sure that avb has no interest so it'll be interesting to see levy's latest deadline day hawking work out... january's was a complete bust. LFC fans are unhappy, roogers is already in the perfect storm after 1 point in 6, a poor enough showing v hearts twice and singings that look bargain bucket efforts bar allen......
MITO is spot on,the write off of the R and d cost whilst only an accounting adjustment with no actual physical cash movement as a result, has an impact in terms of the statement of financial position. We are definitely and categorically not in financial trouble, despite that. It has had a significant short term impact on our bottom line which has meant that we have to wait to see the benefit of increased profit from higher revenues being reinvested in the squad. I am at a loss as to why FSG would not introduce funds, even as an inter company loan, to give us a goalscorer.
Far from skint, FSG are making a fortune out of liverpool. Taking us fans for mugs, I was considering getting the new LFC top but now they can **** off if they think they're getting any £££ from me. Might order one in from Hong Kong or something.
any proof of that? as far as I knew we were still making considerable losses each year and FSG have had to write off a lot of debt from H&G?
Thank you for your question, but no we are not in financial trouble. If anything we are financially more stable now that a few months ago - with large new sponsorship deals, and underperforming high earners off the payroll. If I was you, I'd be more worried about your own team - you've hardly improved have you - you've lost world class acts like Modic and VdV and bought in players who whilst ok are not as good. I think you are now a weaker team after this window, and maybe not able to attract the really big names whilst out top players (suarez, Agger, Skrtel etc) all seem desperate to stay with us.
I don't normally agree with Paul Merson, but he made interesting points this morning in this mornings mirror. He said ''Spurs signings with the exception of Lloris were nothing short of desperation''. Its similar to Arsenal last summer, and Liverpool in the summer of 2010. Spurs have lost VDV and Modric, and have replaced them with good but not the same standard of players. Liverpool are in a healthy position, large chunks wiped off the wage bill, players that offered no long term value to the club moved on, the signings made this summer earning less combined than one of the departed players. John Henry said in October 2010 that he wanted to follow the Arsenal model. Okay it was not to sell all the best players and recruit players of 100 times less standard. It was to ensure that the revenue coming in was twice the expenditure. Liverpool have an advantage over Arsenal in that Liverpool can attract lucrative sponsors due to Liverpool being a world-wide brand, whilst Arsenal aren't. We possibly are just one striker away from being a powerful outfit, but I would prefer they promoted a young, hungry player that is willing to learn like Adam Morgan, than pay £90k a week for someone that will kick up a fuss everytime they don't come off the bench.
It was well known the wage bill had to be cut when FSG arrived. We'd had to bribe a freaking freebie like Jovanovic not to pull out of his transfer after Rafa was sacked. Purslow has a lot still to answer for. I'm disgusted that some of you are putting all this at Dalglish's door. He started the process of cutting the wage bill but muppets judge players by one season. They'd have sold Ronaldo after one season. They'd have sold Lucas and Skrtel too. Muppets. FSG got the club cheap in a fire-sale. That includes assets, i.e. the squad, so they got all the players at discount on what we'd paid for them. That means Torres didn't even cost them £22.5m. They sold Torres and Babel for £58m. They bought Carroll (in a transfer window emergency) and Suarez for £57.8m. They were in profit already so this idea they "invested £120m" is total bullcrap. And when I say "They bought" I mean FSG because there's no way they threw their platinum Mastercard across the desk and told Comolli and Kenny to go out and spend whatever. Carroll is not on Torres' wages. FSG would've been looking very carefully at the numbers and they would have to sign off on them all. So the buck stops at FSG's desk. Everybody was sucking Ollie Holloway's dick two seasons ago, like they're puckering up for Rodgers now. Charlie Adam was at the heart of the "beautiful, flowing attacks of Blackpool". He was prime transfer material and we got him for £7m. That isn't overspending on the type of player who'll put a shift in for the club. He was doing fine first half of last season but as usual the muppet shortsightedness only sees what TalkShyte wants them to see. He's rubbish, he's a bad buy, he'll never amount to anything, Just like Lucas, then. And I'm pretty sure Adam's salary is a lot lower than Jova's. This belt-tightening is very worrying in light of the trouble FSG are in with the Sox and their fans demanding they start investing in their home responsibilities rather than pissing about with European soccer. Pth, like £3m for Dempsey would ever get a PL team into the Champions' League.
Totally agree - plus whilst Spurs have a manager who is tactically dubious and hardly a genius at man management, we have a manager whose tactics I (and key players like Suarez in a recent Guardian interview) rate and seems to keep players keen to play for him (e.g. Allen)... you hardly see many Chelsea players desperate to be reunited with AVB at Spurs do you!!
Are you going to hang around for some debate? Or is this your contribution till next time someone says something good about Rodgers?
No they didn't write off the stadium debt. They loaned LFC the money (interest free). That money has to be paid back at some point. If they sell the club they will take that in one big fat chunk if they keep the club they get it back in dribs and drabs. I'm sure FSG aren't in financial trouble at all. We as a club will be though. They now have long suffering Red Sox fans demanding action to improve their performances. FSGs "image" is far more dependant on them making the Red Sox successful again than any other of their "franchises". You honestly believe they can impress their American market with tales of the soccer club from over the pond or with a show of strength in the US national sport?
bit mythed by our transfer activity of letting players go but not replacing any of them, esp our problems with scoring, but i will wait and see where we are at come Jan and if we badly need a striker (hardly scoring for fun now are we) then i will see what intentions the owners have, self sufficiency is great in principal, but no good if we end up in the ruddy Championship. I suspect we are going down the Arsenal route, but unfortunately we don't have CL to offer or probably silly wages, so are at a disadvantage esp if the owners are serious about making us a force again. time will tell, but i am not happy personally. can we still do loan deals? seen one say we can, and one we cant! i know we can get free agents ie Owen lol, but can we still get Sturridge in or convince Chelsea to let him come here for the season at least.
On a positive note, Swansea don't really have any recognized strikers and they seem to be scoring freely. There is hope.
I'm interested in football in general...I think pompey Leeds etc are warnings to all clubs. I did not mock Liverpool or comment on your team but simply wondered about the financial situation. Fair dos if some think spurs ate weaker this season but that (strengths of squads) was not what I was asking Thanks for the genuine responses...
Good points. I agree with all of them. However one of the strong points about Brendan Rodgers and this was evident by the documentary was his handling of young players. As much as I hate to say this, but the way he slammed Raheem Sterling, I could swear I could hear Fergie. That is a compliment in itself, thats what Ferguson would have done with a cheeky youngster. Brian Reade made a comment in this mornings mirror that, thats exactly what Arsene Wenger should have done with Walcott. Look at the improvement in atitude of Raheem Sterling since he was slammed? I'm not suggesting that its Raheem Sterlings fault, he's just an over enthusiastic kid that got a bit cheeky. He's had everything his own way since he arrived when he was 15. He was too good for the under 18s when he was 15, he was too good for the reserves at 16, and at 17 he's in with the big boys. He's learnt and had to learn, and it was genius of Brendan to cut him off at the ankles early or he would have ended up with a Theo Walcott.
Look, as for on the pitch reality goes even if the deals had fell through & we'd kept Carroll I don't believe he would have been anymore successful as plan "b" if our two other strikers were injured or misfiring. So we will at one point have to gamble with youth. Not the first time a team has done this. I honestly don't think we are in a worse position than last year for creating chances game to game. Obviously I don't know but I do think Sterling, Borini, Suarez, Assaidi, morgan will probably match Bellamy, Kuyt, downing, Carroll, Suarez from last year goal wise. A freed up Gerrard should produce more. I think Shelvey as a more regular starter is showing signs that he will chip in with a few. Boy has a shot on him. I think our system may well produce more chances but we'll have to wait a few games to compare stats. I Do think you'll see more goals come as we get more comfortable with the style of play, fitness improves and the players start understanding each other. Will it be enough for 4th, unlikely but I didn't see many people thinking we would get that high anyway. Those that changed their minds have based it on acquisitions we have got already and what they've seen so far so that can only be good because we still have all those players. Carroll, Adam, Spearing didn't really feature. The only player I worry about is how Henderson was treated throughout. Not a way to handle a young player. Let's see how he bounces back. The FSG stuff I'm going to leave alone now. I just don't want to hear any bollox about "targets" , ambition, drive until they're prepared to put their money where their mouth is. Be assured if we do improve league wise this year it will be down to the players & manager. FSG will have got exactly what they wanted: self sufficiency. But I won't be congratulating them for anything as they've now relegated themselves to spectators with good match seats.
