I was just chatting about this to a friend in the pub in Bristol over a light luncheon. Obviously Bristol Rovers are languishing in the lower leagues compared to BCFC , and much is the same with the Swansea/Cardiff situation, hence the teams rarely play each other. It would seem to me, that with Swans pushing on to the next level , that BCFC are more in CCFC league and are probably now their main rivals. One does wonder who the Swans new rivals are though :|
Yes, their standard is about the same and they are pretty local to each other. Cardiff fans have often considered it their local derby and I understand why. Let's face it we were lower down in the leagues than Cardiff for quite a while. I watched the Wurzels game on TV the other day. Two really poor sides I thought. 2 Lucky deflected OGs won it for Cardiff (you can't deny that, guys) but not much between them I thought. Cardiff don't look a patch on the team of last season, but then again 7 or 8 Prem loanees helped back then. For all the debate going on about standards in the Prem (I actually think the standard is noticeably higher than in the Champ - pace and pass accuracy being the two main factors) imo the standard at the moment in the Championship isn't that great but it's still a really tough league to get out of. From what I've seen (admittedly not a lot) it's going to be a big ask. As for the Swans' main rivals, JA, I think we've approached every game like a cup final and we haven't really got a 'main rival' any more. Each game is so tough. Doing alright though last time I looked.
I must admit I did used to like the old Swans/Cardiff rivalry , but I guess that time moves on for all clubs, and obviously there has been progression that means we have outgrown out cousins. I have the deepest of respect for what Cardiff are trying to do, with not very much, and wish them all the best by the way.
whey hey im back........come back for the man city game and it was well worth it, i have been in the states for the last two months having a great time with my family, i have been keeping an eye on things from time to time though, well we are all but safe now after the man city game and we should try now for a top 8 finish which would be out of this world if we can do it.......I cant see our little cousins doing anything this season though as they are not very good at maintaining form, they were very lucky at bottom side Bristol city on saturday and have dropped loads of points recently......mind you thats nothing new they seam to do that every season at this point. never mind no derby match next season then.......well its great to be back and it was great to be back at my second home the liberty, i hope alls well with everyone and look forward to resuming some good discussions.......
Dont know who their rivals are but i think the end of the season spoils go to Southampton Reading And West ham to beat Brighton for the third promotion spot
I'd have though your average Cardiff fans rivals were the three "R's" given some of the stuff I read on here. Always seems to be a battle with commonsense too !
