The deadline for the appeal of the appeal of the compulsory purchase order has passed, so it now seems that our delightful neighbours at the Archway Sheet Metal Works will have to move out.
    Shame, eh?

Seems like the work's gone on all around them anyway, but it's nice to see the last obstacle removed.
It'll be interesting to see how things develop now.

I hope Levy uses my Sponsor A Bulldozer suggestion. That should raise some transfer funds.

Meanwhile, the tsunami of sour grapes on Arseway's Twattle account is so bad, they actually used the word "entitled" without a hint of irony:

    From Sky sports:

Tottenham are free to build their new stadium after a local business dropped its legal challenge to the plans.

Archway Steel, a family-run company based in Paxton Road behind the stadium’s north stand, has been locked in a 10-year battle with Spurs over the club’s proposed £400m redevelopment of White Hart Lane.

Last month the High Court rejected a challenge by the firm over a compulsory land purchase order and set a three-week deadline for any requests to appeal the verdict.

However, Archway Steel has now decided to drop any legal action and will instead negotiate with Spurs.

"We have decided not to appeal against his decision," confirmed Archway in a statement.

"We were very pleased that the judge expressly acknowledged that we were perfectly entitled to pursue these matters and that the proceedings were a perfectly proper exercise of our rights.

“We have always been willing to negotiate with the club on a reasonable and proper basis. Our efforts towards that end have been unsuccessful so far, but we will continue to try to achieve a proper settlement by agreement if that is possible.

“We are now awaiting a response from Tottenham.”

In a statement on their website, Tottenham said: "The club has received confirmation that Archway Steel will not be applying to the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal the High Court's decision last month to refuse their legal challenge of the Compulsory Purchase Order.

“The next step will be to vest the land in Haringey Council's ownership and to agree the compensation amount payable to Archway.

“We shall also continue to seek to reach an agreement with Archway by private treaty. We shall provide a further update as matters progress.”

Reading this it still sounds like we still have to agree compensation with Archway for there land, haven't we been trying to do this for the past 11 years? Where does it end, can't they just refuse all offers? I would have thought an appropriate amount of compensation would have been arranged in the court case.

I think they can try and negotiate for a better deal if the winning party are willing but they cannot hold out indefinitely as I think there will be a date to vacate and if they dont the bailiffs step in and evict them

From what I'm reading above, if the land is now going to be passed into the hands of Haringey Council, then surely development can be started without further delay? Compensation now becomes a separate issue, with a figure being set by the court, if necessary.

I hope the seats at the new stadium are white or the traditional navy blue instead of the awful royal (chelsea) blue that we have at WHL currently.

  8. I remember PESKIE and Gooner4 having a right old giggle about this, and suggesting that Archway were Gooners.

Just been announced on Twitter that a private agreement has been made between Archway and Spurs for the land.

Years and years of delays, finally over. The lawyers will be very disappointed.

I'm encouraged by how well our training ground redevelopment appears to have gone.
Let's hope that the stadium turns out to be equally impressive.
