Aquilani's agent has confirmed the midfielder will stay at Anfield for the coming season. I feel its good news, and if we can keep Meireles too, even better, we'll have a well stocked midfield to deal with any crisis that may come our way. I also feel this increases our chances in Cup competitions, with Lucas, Adam, Meireles, Aquilani and Gerrard, any one of these players would make it into most Premier League sides, and if we're playing them in Cup competitions where say Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea may see it as low priority as they venture out to Europe, we should have a good crack at it. So, what do you think?
Agreed that it is good news. The only problem I can see is the fact that we have so many midfielders who are expecting to play, some of the midfielders might not be too happy. I'm sure that Kenny can sort out any problems with this though. Squad depth is important though.
We won't be playing the same midfield every week and I'm sure KK will play around and see what works well in different conditions. The competition for places will also hot up and the players will be motivated to do better. Once they are motivated and ready to play their best, they could all well stay another season and help us push on to better things. With top four our target this season, I could see us pushing into the top 2/3 the following season.
In previous seasons people have complained that we don't have enough Koala-Tee on the bench At least we can put that one to bed now Really glad Aqua is staying - apart from every other skill he possesses - he's a GAME CHANGER
Don't- we've already made a dog's dinner out of GKRK's thread. Sorry Jatt. On topic from now on. Yes, we've got a lot of midfielders- but we've been saying for years we don't have enough strength in depth and now we're getting there it's all good as far as I can see. Kenny should have at least a season to see who's worth keeping and those that don't fit can move on then.
Could this be down to the fact hes pretty much worthless? I mean hes never once performed at Liverpool, hes average at best regardless of what I will be told about his time in Italy and the reason hes not leaving is the fact Liverpool dont want to take the massive loss you will make on him so keeping him and trying to increase his value is the sensible option.
Great news - one of the few midfielders that can create something out of nothing. He's also the most technically gifted midfielder we have who has great vision and good range of passing. IMO - he's the last midfielder we should be getting rid of.
Before Hodgson loaned him out he put in some excellent performances for us. Roy is the main reason we are in this situation. I agree that if he stays and has a good season then his value will go up
Im happy he is staying. I think the guy bring's some real creativity to the table and I would at least like to see him get a fair crack at the prem because he looked good to me any time he played.
Apparently hes one of the best Italian players of the moment........which says alot about Italian football. Its awful these days. and being one of your best players of the last few seasons doesnt make him a good player.
Italian football isn't great, agreed. Not sure what you even mean in the last sentence? Last few seasons??? He came for a short while, then Roy sent him on loan.
Hes been a Liverpool player for 2 years hasnt he? played a few games and hasnt impressed enough albeit hampered by injuries.
I get the impression....or I did before you lot got your yearly dose of optimism that he had failed to make an impact at Liverpool when he had played. Stats are ok though, maybe they were glimpses in his otherwise average gameplay.
If you watched the games he played under Rafa, and the pre-season games he played under KK, albeit versus poor opposition, he played well. Don't forget you can only beat the team placed before you
He's made 13 appearances for us and did impress (everyone except that useless twat Hodson). Also, he had a fantastic season with Juve so all in all im chuffed he's staying
