Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani has seen a move to Fiorentina fall through. Fiorentina could not agree a fee with Liverpool to buy Aquilani when his proposed loan spell would have ended next summer. The Italian midfielder was reluctant to take a pay cut of over 50 per cent to fit within the Serie A side's £30,000-a-week wage ceiling. Aquilani also preferred to make a permanent switch rather than another temporary one after spending last season on loan at Juventus. Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia claims no deal has been done. "An agreement between Fiorentina and Aquilani hasn't been reached," he said. "Fiorentina haven't come to a decision with regard to us."
Looking that way. It seems Kenny doesnt want him otherwise he wouldn't almost keep leaving. I want him to stay though. But a decent bid and i'll think he'll go.
Kenny may want him but I think it's fairly obvious the lad wants to go back to Italy. Keny would never keep someone there who wasn't fully commited.
It's all greys. Aquilani would prefer to go back to Italy but if he has to stay he won't be found wanting for effort. He'll earn the wage he's staying for. Kenny would prefer he goes but won't shed any tears if he has to stay. He's clearly the best of those who could leave.
No quotes from the man himself. His agent seems to be doing all the gum bashing, I still don't know the outcome for this one. It's been months now, I hope he stays.
Out of the 'could go' list, Aquilani and Cole are the only ones I wouldn't be too bothered about if they stayed. Both can offer something, and seem to be putting the effort into these friendlies.
I'd not really made my mind up before, i thought he was a reasonably good player but neither here nor there really. obviously the desire for him to do well was a motivating factor. but i dunno, from what i've seen in the friendlies, he seems to be one of those players that everything he touches turns to gold. His control and passing sometimes amazes me, and that he gets easily into space, doesn't always do the most amazing hollywood pass, but almost always does the RIGHT thing.... If anyone, he reminds me of Riquelme, and not just coz they both share a "Q" in their surname! Not very quick & not much of a tackler... but if he gets the ball in space, then you know something is going to happen.
I think hes the type of player you can have in your team, as long as the other midfielders put the effort in to win the ball back. He's never going to win a tackle but aslong as the other 2 CM's can, then it's no problem. I think if he was to play with Merieles then we may struggle but put him with Lucas or Spearing or Gerrard then he'd be a great player. He's looked by far the best player in our friendlies though so I'd be more than happy for him to stay. I can already picture him and Luis linking up brilliantly with litle 1-2's
I agree with you. I can just see him playing in the hole and feeding Suarez and Downing with those stiletto type through-balls.
He made a major positive impact when he came on last night. Where's Aquilani Pass Master when you need him?
Considering the poor result last night, watching the 2nd half on LFC TV now some of Aquilani's passing is phenomenal since he came on and something we have missed a lot this season.
It's funny to see that comment finally made after all the Alonso's Poor Replacement hype. Rafa not so daft after all.
More from The Agent: "As Alberto doesn't yet fall in the plans of Liverpool, we want to find a solution so that next year the current situation will not recur," Aquilani's agent, Franco Zavaglia, told Sportitalia. "The player wants to come to Italy on a permanent transfer. "I met [Fiorentina's sporting director, Pantaleo] Corvino, and the club must think about it. It's a difficult deal but let's see. "There is a 50% chance that my client will transfer to Florence. Last year, in August, there was 'magic' [Aquilani's loan deal to Juventus], let's see if this year will be the same. There is still time." The "magic" he speaks of being the managerial incompetence ( or stupidity) of Purslow and Woy under H&G.
