Ladbrooks has Appy down as 2/1 favourite to takeover from Roy Hodgson at The Hawthrorns.

I really really hope that Apple's proves that he isn't all talk, and that the moral fibre of the man is as strong as he has led us to believe. He is very much the backbone of this frail club at the moment, and for us to have any chance of success in League 1, he must remain at the helm of the goodship Pompey!

Big Eck has been sacked at Villa today... with any luck he'll stay in that neck of the woods and be handed the job at the Baggies - fingers crossed that with the other names being linked at their club they forget about Appleton <ok>

What will be will be but it's worth remembering that Harry was odds on favourite for the England job.

I think Ranieri is in line for the West Brom job, although Appleton could go back as his assistant. I think, unfortunately, Appleton may depart from your club, but probably to a Championship side.

If the apple goes and new owners with deep pockets [and long arms!] don't appear on the horizon, then i fear the next 2 seasons could be 1976-77 and 77-78 revisited <yikes>

I fear that even if he stays we will be flirting with relegation anyway.

For once I agree with you guys, why on earth would he want to leave League 1 Portsmouth and go to premiership WBA?

Perhaps we can meet for a pint when your Club play Poole Town at Tatnam. Hopefully Saints will have a Sunday game on Sky and I'll be free to watch some local non league stuff.......

    See you there.

You're a fool. We aren't non-league, enjoy your years stint in the EPL because you'll be back down where you belong soon enough, but at least you'll have the South Coast derby between Pompey and Saints to look forward to in the league next season <ok>

Some surprise that Appleton didn't get the nod for the Enlgand position taken by Neville as was muted a few weeks ago. Seeing the Hodgson conncetion, they might have seemed to have made more sense. There was tak yesterday of Appleton returning to WBA under Ranieri too. Neville's appointment is bizarre to say the least with his employment apparently being based on his impressive performance as a match summariser on TV. Not convinced by that appointment and can't help feeling that a foreign coach is just as essential for international squads as perhaps British managers in most domestic clubs. (Mancini, Wenger, etc excluded.)

Appleton is a good prospect as a coach and I'm sorry I can't see any reason for him to stay if there is a mass exodus of players wiht whom to work with and the risk of not getting paid. Granted that Appleton seems a man of his words and is reverred by the Pompsey fans, but I would be interested to read what there is in Pompey's favour to make him stay.

Curious to see Dalglish given the boot today by Liverpool's foriegn owners- another club run by overseas investment where the understanding of the "club culture" is absent. I think they will struggle to better 8th next season too.

Have to agree with everything you just said mate <ok>

:O I do not for the life of me understand some Pompey "fans" sometimes...

Don't worry Duckfiddler, we will deffinately start and finish the season in League 1 next season, no non-league for us.

What seems to be the biggest motivation for Appy to stay is that he intends building the club, from the bottom up, to fulfill the vision he has and appears to have been given free reign to do that, by the administrator at least.

However, should Chanrai step back in (to protect his damned investment) things may change. He also knows there is no money but he did make mention today of a budget that he's working to, so there are things going on behind the scenes which seems to make him confident that there will be a next season and beyond.
