If I were Saints, and United offered that much I would take their hand off. But from what I can tell its Saints that are hiking the price up, so you are probably right, they are trolling United. If United agree to £34m though I would take it, you will never get that for him again, especially in 2, 3 years when it turns out he is actually very mediocre and overhyped.

I've seen him play significantly more than you and he is already a very good Premier League left back even at 18, its not merely "potential" he is at a high level already. He is better at the same age than Gareth Bale was. Saints don't want to sell him and financially don't need to sell him, they are better of with him in the side and building on last seasons squad. If a £40m valuation puts Man Utd off then they'll be happy.

But players that rise THIS early, like mega early, rarely go on to live up to their hype. For the development of his career, he should steer clear of any big club until at least 20 imo. The media spotlight and money he will earn can destroy a young player like Shaw. You cant pay a teenager £160k a week ffs. Its insanity.
