how many defensive midfielders do we need?Oakley, Abe andnow this guy. Good player and all that but we need strikers!!! surely if this is true then its the end of oakley who wouldnt get a look in.
I agree we need strikers but neither Oakley or Abe are up to the defensive midfield role. And I don't believe Talksport for one minute.
this was talked about in papers though and other sites i remember so who knows? The point is though Oakley and Abe are by definition defensive midfielders, they certainly are not attacking, neither is fernandes, so seems strange. But hey I think Sven wants a big powerful squad full of quality to cope with the rigours of the season. But I feel we really really need a top-drawer striker before the start of the season to complete the squad,and ideally a right winger to play on the opoosite guide to gallagher. the way i see it the starting 11 is 2 short of being very very good schmiechel konchesky mills bamba pantsil danns wellens king gallagher CF RW
I have a feeling that Nugent, or god forbid, Vassell, will fill that RW spot though. Abe and Oakley aren't attacking midfielders but neither are they quite defensive, I don't think they excell in either way. I think they are both decent centre midfielders who can pass the ball and tackle, but neither to an outstanding extent. For example - King excells in going forward and scoring, Danns is a very good dribbler and runner with the ball, and Wellens stands out for his vision and passing. A true defensive midfield option would be nice, however I don't see Konchesky or Pantsil being quite as attacking as Naughton and PVA were, and I also think our defending in general will be better, so maybe a defensive midfielder won't be neccessary.
agree with every word, see what you mean now mate.An out and out nailed on holding player who does nothing but hold may be a good ploy, especially in some away games. King wellens and danns is a fairly attacking midfield to be fair, so we need steel too in some games. Another reason why Sven is a football manager and i am not.
Who ? Don´t we need a left sided mid player & a forward ? SGE must know what he´s doing & no doubt he´s had a chat with the thai´s & got the O.K to go & get these players, 9 with this one.

I reckon he would be a quality signing and another one that is Prem ready should we go up! Abe is not a CDM! He doesn't tackle enough! Oakley I like but I don't see where he is going to play?!
I just wanted to say that I have seen people questioning why we would go for Gelson when we have Abe and Oakley, simple He is better and to move forward and improve we need better than what we have. Each step up is a step forward. Would you rather have Andy King or Stephen Hughes, Elvis Hammond or David Nugent, Matt Mills or Brian Carey, Kasper Schmeichal or my mum? We know he is gonna get a striker and seriously we all know it will be Maynard within a week or so and I'm sure he will get a winger if that is the formation he is opting for but for the time being lets really enjoy ourselves. After all it has been since March 16th 2001 when Roy Essandah started our 8 year hardship with a fluke goal.
