No posts on here about the awful perfomance yesterday - there is a palpable sense of resignation about what lies ahead this season. I don't blame Manoni for the goal - keepers spill shots like that all th etime, but in most cases it's a defender who gets to it first, so an overall defensive lapse. Our basic problem in attack is we need to create a LOT of chances to stick 1 in. United, City, Chelsea will put in half a dozen performances like that one we put in last night but when they get the chance they will grab it with both hands. Our lot are far too casual, and in some cases far too rubbish. Other than Podolski, our strikers are a tad second class. I hate to say it, but the introduction of Carzola with his crisp quick passing has highlighted how far short Ramsey is from being a very good player. Ramsey's propensity for taking two too many touches slows the game down, whereas modern football is about moving the ball quickly. We nhave a good passing team, but a largely ineffective attack. Gervinho? Where do I start. Yes he has at long last scored a few this season, but he has missed crucial chances, and has been very wasteful in promising situations. I've lost count of trhe number of times he has simply run the ball out of play when a simple cross or speculative shot might have yielded at least a corner. I don't know what te answer is - the likes of Arshavin seem to mhave lost heart. Wenger doesn't appear to have keen and hungry quality replacements on the bench. It's as clear as day, this season will be about grabbing 4th at best.
We shouldn't moan as we have an excellent manager who will not succumb to the trend of throwing obscene amounts money on proven players (but himself earns circa £7m per year) and a board with the likes of Peter Hill Wood who run the club the right way...the proper old Etonian/English civilised way (ie rip off idiots with the highest ticket prices in return for f@#k all in terms of glory)
And let's not forget, selling our best players to the highest bidders, even if they are our rivals. But it could be worse, we could have an oil baron or arab sheik to buy us an endless supply world class players but hey, at least we're doing things the right way. Yup, the right way.
Come on now , Norwich are a top team . They gave Real Madrid a right drubbing in the CL last season i recall. We should not automatically expect to beat such giants . A loss away is a good result. If we can hold them to a draw at the emirates i will be well chuffed. Big teams steamroller over such dross as if they are not there,......... not us . mental strength my arse .
And what happens if the Sheikh loses interest? Look at Malaga for proof why a sugar daddy isn't always the best option.
Of course I wouldn't want that for Arsenal, but every time Arsenal fans apparently "complain" about where we are as a club, the usual rhetoric to our scrap for fourth place is "well, at least we don't have a sugar daddy running our club" as if that's the only other alternative to our current situation. The club are more concerned with profits apparently. High season ticket prices, selling off our best players... it's a joke really and an insult to us. But again, we're doing things 'the right way' according to some.
There are plenty of posts about our awful performance in the match day thread. As for how good we are, I think it's clear that we are still behind Utd, City and Chelsea in terms of quality players. We still need to add one or two more in the Cazorla bracket. Losing RVP increasing looks like a terrible mistake - as most said it would be, the fact that he's scoring regularly for our rivals just stinks. In all reality, fourth is about as good as we're going to get unless we dramatically improve or one of the other teams collapse.
Damn, we know we're in trouble if even your optimism fades slightly. Come on Piskie, cheer us all up.
We could of course win our next two games, find ourselves in third and talking up our title challenge We need to see a big improvement from some of our players, but it's not inconceivable that once we get it right and the confidence is flowing, then we can beat anybody.
Dont forget the midfiled lacked balance because of injuries. I know its the same old story but we missed Wilshere, Diaby and Frimpong ion midfield so were playing an attacking midfielder in the holding position in Ramsey. Since Diaby has been been injured we have had that something missing from midfield. Im hoping Wilshere will add it, but if not we still have Diaby and Frimpong (if he stays fit and doesnt get himself sent off). Whatever happens we are having our usual injury crisis, I'm surprised no-one has really mentioned it. Maybe we should buy Busquets now hes rumoured to want to leave (after Barca bought Song from us). The good news is we have 3 midfielders due to start to come back who can add what we lacked yesterday.
Ramsey isn't a CAM. I'm not sure what Ramsey is. Not very good springs to mind. And please not Busquets.
At least our captain is not a complete bell end piece of scum and at least we don't racially abuse our players if they make mistakes..... But I would love to win a bit of silverware this season. Wenger is gonna break my heart again I can tell. I feel like a husband who keeps taking his wife back after cheating.
As I said in another thread, Gervinho should only be played through the middle. All his best performances and goals have come from that role. He has been so **** on the wings this season it's untrue.
I think the reason for this apathy among the fans is that we've seen it all before. The problem with Arsenal has been the same for years, our squad isn't good enough, a couple of injuries and we have to put rubbish like Ramsey in our starting 11. He wouldn't make the starting 11 in any other team in the top 8, maybe more. There really isn't anything new to talk about. We've been spoonfed bullshit for years and we're never going to invest the money needed to win anything, I wish Wenger and the board would just admit it instead of spouting ****e like "we're one of the most ambitious clubs I know" **** off Gazidas you effeminate bellend! The contempt they have for us is staggering and the propaganda campaign over the last 8 years has been so effective that people still say we're a very well run club. The object of a football team with our stature is to win trophies, end of story. As fans we should care about little else.
Song will never replace Busquets at Barca. Song is either used as a CB or against weak teams when Tito wants to rest Busquets.
