So on Thursday we play Russian rich kids Anzhi Makhachkala. A wealthy team managed by Guus Hiddink which contains big names such as Samuel Eto'o and Lassana Diarra. With Hiddink in charge we can expect a well run, highly disciplined team. This could be a very interesting game for us. I think this could be an unpredictable game, and I think Anzhi will either a big test, or an average opposition. On paper I would say we may need a stronger team for this one. But with a tough trip to Everton a few days later, and the league very much a priority, we dont want to risk burning out our young and stretch squad. With Suarez looking less than 100% for fitness, I would leave him out here, along with Sterling, Suso and Wisdom, who we dont want to risk over playing. I would also take it easy with Gerrard and leave him out of the first 11. But I wouldnt take it to easy, we should take this seriously. I think Shelvey can easily manage the extra game, and he has been scoring goals in this competition. I'd give Cole and chance to prove himself. ------------------Jones--------------- -Flanagan-Carragher---Coates-Enrique- ---------------Henderson------------- -------Shelvey-----------Cole--------- --Downing--------------------Assaidi-- -------------------Yesil--------------- Subs: Gulucci, Skrtel, Gerrard, Downing, Pacheco, Morgan, Robinson.
Id play the 2nd string, with only Reina starting from the 1st string if fit as I believe he needs playin back into form.Id have both Stevie n Suarez on the bench to try and get the win late on if required,if we were away I wouldnt have Suarez or Gerrard involved as its the travelling that knackers you out NOT the playin, at home for 20 mins they should be ok. Id be tempted to give Ryan McLaughlin a go at RB, who IMO is better than Flanno and is closer to fitness as Flanno has been out recently
