I know we're miles from qualifying for Europe, but with the cups allowing for extra places in the Europa League we may be a bit closer later in the season. But seeing Stoke get twatted at Bolton after a euro game, just like we twatted them, I am beginning to wonder if it's worth the bother. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see us qualify, but I have me doubts as to whether it's actually a good thing, apart from the extra revenue. There seem to be a load more extra games to play and it's clearly knackering Stoke's players at the moment.
It's hard if you've got a small squad without bags of quality back up. Teams like Man City and Man United can hack it because they could play one XI in Europe then a completely different one on the Saturday and still win both games. I'd love to see us in Europe, but if we were in it now, we'd be suffering big time.
These teams that complain about being in Europe are obviously just tw@ts of the highest order. Why bother qualifying if you cant be arsed to actually play in it.
Would love to see us in Europe, totally agree RNW4L, be top banter to have a foreign trip to watch the lads. Whats the point in trying if you're just gonna complain when you succeed. Same could be said for cup runs.
This is one of the reasons why I don't rate Martin O'Neill, Europa League game in Ukraine. ( Or Serbia, or wherever). Deliberatley lost because he thought he could get Villa 4th. It was only September! Pathetic. Win the silver. x
Like BBP a want Europe. Stoke are sh*te. Just play football and you will beat them. They do not intimidate anybody anymore.
Bit immaterial lads we are miles from getting there via the league and our cup record under Bruce is to put it politely ****e.
FFC in peace.. If you ever get the chance, go for it! OK so we've lost a few Prem points due to the Europa League and finished lower than we should've, but most of us would not have missed it for anything: Some great nights at The Cottage; winning away in Basel in the snow at -5c was a superb experience for the 1200 of us that went, and even losing the final to Athetico Madrid was worth the disappointment.
Sorry, but there is no issue here at all, for me. We are struggling in the league anyway. So if you are going to struggle anyway you may as well be in Europe. Performing well in the league is only a means to an end i.e. Europe, since we have no chance of the league title. The cups however offer the chance of silverware and Europe, and is more realistic.
If Fulham take that many away to a mid-week game, it just shows what European football means to fans. (And no this isn't a pop.)
Could you imagine our league position if we were in Europe this season. Our main rival would be Wigan! I agree with the points on teams spending all year playing to get into Europe, get there and then put the youth team out so you don't play any games, pathetic attitude to have. I'd also agree with the point about definitely in a few years but if we got into Europe at the end of the season (Best chance is through the fair play league and we've got Cattermole in the side...) then our squad would be no where near good enough, yikes we can't even hack 1 game in the League Cup!
The only thing that makes me think about Europe is can we please withdraw from that hideous, crooked EU?
would love europe but it so hard with only 25 allocated players i always thought peter reid was told our squad was 2 small for europe hence 2 7th places
