Straight into the action for all the new and old kids. Interesting to see the highlights and hear Curt's comments on this one.
It would be huge if Ferrie could come back anywhere near his best form. Give him time and keep fingers crossed!!
Looks like we won the match and the Bodde and Tate worked out well for 45 and Donnelly and Situ worked out well for 90. Looking forward to the highlights and Curt's post match comments.
See that thing up over the moon ..... Well that's me ...... WOOOHOOO !!... I've been waiting patiently for this . I'm not saying that everything is going to come up roses for us & Bodde , but nobody can say it won't either !!
Eventually won with a second half penalty.only read and not saw video, not a good performance by a premiership club, nevermind reserves. All players and reserves are supposed to be about equal,if not why have reserves.for me surely it should read +5 goals or more.Reserve players still earn the same or less or more than the first team players.very poor i think.
Terrible outlook on the game from thaitaffy. It's a reserve, practice match. It's not even a real reserve match. The match is solely for getting people up to fitness (Bodde - out for 2 years, Tate - out for 4 months), and practising tactics (Donnelly and Situ playing their first game in a Swans shirt and needing to get used to our footballing philosophy). Add in the youth team players and this wasn't ever going to be a drubbing, there was no need for it to be. If youth reserves are meant to be as good as the first team, imagine how brilliant the top clubs youth must be, considering the comparable standard of their first teams! Oh yeah... It doesn't actually work like that.
Adding on to what bigkidderz has correctly stated. These matches are chances for us to try out new things. They aren't for us to always blast the opposition away, otherwise we'd never learn anything new. It's all progress Thai
Sorry i think you are miss understanding,no disrespect for Hereford, many cities wouldnt know where hereford is,but we are not playing the likes of MAN U or other Premiership clubs, youth, reserve or whatever.Whoever plays in the shirt, whether being out for a long time or not or injured, its no excuses for the money they receive and up against (could i say semi professional) to come away with a second half penalty.Yes i understand progress, but not to for a professional player.People have talked all over different forums with remarks, that a player in the championship ,will take time to adjust or they are not up to the premiership. So with respect to the players playing against Hereford, which are not championship,it stands them in good shape,Injured or not or havent played for a long time, yes it should have been +5 goals.
I don't dwell on the reserves results to much. For me it's more about individual players learning and working as a team with the Swansea Philosophy. If they were to loose against Hereford it would be a bit dissapointing but like I said it's work in progress and every match (win or loose) will help improve our team.
Yes i understand and i am on for improving ,injured or long time players who rarely get a game, but surely they must up the opposition to see how far our players are progressing.A local swansea side would give them a good game,i mean playing Hereford.i dont know now,but i mean like Port tennant colts ,ragged school etc.our players to find out about their fitness and ability must play better opposition.my view only.as you say progress even if little is good,i understand.
Yeh the quality of opposition is a fair point Thai but our reserves do play in the reserve premier league or what ever it's called and they do play against quality opposition every week or so. This was just a one off friendly I think to ease two long term injured players as well as the new players. I don't think my heart could have coped if Bodde was playing against Stoke Reserves or something
I can imagine the sharp intake of breath and subsequent seconds of silence in the Liberty after Ferrie receives his first tackle.... :S
thaitaffy, I understand where you're coming from but still have to disagree to a point. We're easing our young new signings and comeback players in gently. This is a one off practice match that was not on our seasonal calendar. We'll probably be organising one or two more of these against more lower division sides to give Bodde and Tatey more minutes. If they come through that, they will then join up with the reserves in the reserve team league and will make appearances against Premiership reserve teams. You have to take baby steps sometimes, because if you run before you can walk you don't get anywhere. You have to look at our team against Hereford as a reserves to the reserves team (or if our reserves are the B team, this team against Hereford was the C team). A few B team players, quite a few kids, some new guys, and some crocked pros hoping to make a comeback. I do agree that our reserve team players should be ready to come into the first team at any time if required. That is why games against Hereford are organised - to assess fringe players, to assess our new signings, to assess the fitness of our previously injured players, and all with out wasting a reserve match where positions should only be filled by players who could slot into the first team next week if needed.
