The little lad in the second half of it puts us to shame with his bravery in the face of adversity and puts our petty gripes in perspective. His relationship with the dog brings a lump to the throat. And credit to his step mum, a lot wouldn't have wanted to get involved with someone who had a kid with those problems.
Maybe because with his conditions and pain comfort is the main thing. Not to mention fashionable stuff apart from being uncomfortable may not have fitted the poor lad.
