Right then, I'm bored of talking business (that's for work), I don't care if DS has arrived and I really just don't give a flying #### about Steely (or whatever his name is today). Let's be positive, assume we will start the season and talk about football....... Who would be your starting eleven and Who would you like to see signed (realistic if possible)? and...blood and snotters or tippy tappy football (or is a win a win)? Let the discussions begin and I promise not to use the ignore button!
Starting line up would be.............have we got eleven at the moment......... and aren't we expecting a few of them to be snaffled up for peanuts anyway. The line up would have to include apprentices........no second goalkeeper at present. Zubar,Nelson,Bhasera could go for petty cash.............and we could hope that Damien Johnson and Simon Walton on Championship wages will go so we can afford other players to complete are allowed 20 player limit.
I don't want to see any more hoofball, we've had several seasons of that and it hasn't worked even when we had half decent players. I trust Reid to sign the best he can afford so whoever is wearing the green will get my support,
Currently we have to be looking at Le Keeper N´Gala Nelson Zubar (Arni ) Bhas Walton Fletcher Johnson (Arni) Loan/sign Mason Patterson Plus whatever we comes out from the youth Can´t tell what will happen inbetween but we have to sign/loan keeper, fullback cover, left mid and striker at minimum IMHO. Win at all costs and don´t think tippy tap will do that at least not with the calibre of players we can attract at the moment. I don´t want to see route one, hoofball stupid name, rather we get it on the deck, quick positive attacking passes, get down the wings and get it in the box with midfield supporting. If you try to pass through teams in this Div it will be hard work from my memories of our previous time here. Reid has already stated he wants a strong spine to the team and that seems the right approach for me. If we can hold most of what we have now it has the basis for a competitive team at this level.
Its so difficult to forget the business side of things, because right now we dont know if any money will be available to make signings or what our wage budget will be. Im also not sure how the loan system works. If we were able to get a couple of youngsters from a Premiership club do we have to pay their wages? Do we pay a fee for getting them on loan? I really think we need a keeper because Larrieu has been a star for us and is as loyal as they come but for me he's not too agile these days and doesn't give the defence confidence. Depending on who is left from our defence, we might not be too bad in that department and in Mason we have one goalscorer so another striker and a winger would be good. I can't see Damien Johnson staying with us, unless he just wants to pick up a nice wage for one more year and no-one else is prepared to pay good money for him, and Simon Walton might have to accept that he's not as good at football as his Missus is hot, and actually knuckle down and get on with it, because he definitely has talent. I think we will have to use some youth players so hopefully there will be a couple of eager youngsters who want to play for us who come through this year, but its all conjecture because right now I'm not sure if the mystery Irish bidders even exist!
As for signings loan wise we may struggle as the better premiership youngsters will be farmed out to the higher league clubs, however Sir Reids contacts may well help us there. As for signings we will be looking at free´s or non-league I think as money is going to be extremely tight. Really hope we get an older head to help Mason out, he is too young and inexperienced to lead the line and needs to develop or maybe Div 2 will be the right level for our Rory, not holding my breath on that one though.
At the moment the team picks itself as we only have 11 players I think. If hoofball secures us in the professional league or in a dream moment earns us promotion then I will take it. I would like a combination of some of each preferably working on the assumption we won't turn into Barcelona anytime soon. We have to have a season of "a win is a win" whatever it takes. If there is hoofball and it wins a lot of games then the public at large have proved before that they will take that and come in increasing numbers to watch it. It is a lot of what we did in our two promotions in 3 years. I can't remember anyone objecting too much then. It is very hard to ignore the business side of things right now. I am already assuming we will start the season and will survive but that doesn't mean there is no interest in the side issues and their importance.
Here we go I'm glad someone has posted a thread like this. You cannot deny the financial situation is synonomous with Argyle at the mo... but f**k me it's nice to talk about something else. I don't think anyone can dispute what style of football we play in the coming season. Hoofball/Tippy Tappy..quite frankly (for the first time in as long as I can remember) I don't care. I just hope we don't flounder. It seems just like our thoughts from this time last year will be replicated.. "Mason will shine at this level", "hoofball will be more effective in this league", "Patterson will bang in the goals this year". Who knows lets wait (and pray) and see. For what it's worth I think Mason and Patterson will do well, but that's exactly what I said on the old 606 exactly a year ago. One thing is for sure.. I can't bloody wait. Bring on the fixture list tomorrow!
Jiggle I feel a ´Green Arrrrmy´ coming on, better pop out the office as they think I´m odd enough as it is.
How on earth could anyone think you of all people are odd mexijan? Tell me where you work and I'll pop in and put them straight. You go for it........all together now.....greeeeeeen Aaaaarrrrmmmy.
Quality loan players could be a problem for Argyle, who remember are playing DIV TWO football. Premiership clubs want their young talent to develop and be stretched, will DIV TWO football accomplish that for them I doubt it. The best then could be Championship clubs loaning us players, should not they be good enough to shine for us at DIV TWO level ? One bonus could be the old boys network, can Peter Reid swing a good deal or two from his old mates ? What definately needs to happen is to off load players receiving championship level pay. Damien Johnson,Simon Walton and even Carl Fletcher we can't afford them, we need to off load them to be able to pay for a squad of twenty players.
I think it likely that our team for most of the campaign (pending transfers out/in etc...) would be thus: GK: Larrieu (or a loanee/new keeper) DF: NGala (RB) Zubar Nelson (CB) Bhasera (LB) MF: Fletcher (DCM) Johnson/Walton Arnason (CM) WG: Mason (RW) Young (LW) FW: Patterson (or youth/new striker/loanee) If we can play this team (wage cap dependant) we could still get some results. COYG!
It's like we've been in train crash. We're waiting for the dust & smoke to clear to count the survivors. I think we need a creative spark for the midfield. We have some decent artisans who will put in a shift but you win games by scoring goals, not simply by keeping clean sheets. I think we have a good finisher in Mason but someone has to supply the ammunition for him to fire. Without Noone and Bolassie, I'm not sure we have that any more.
Hopefully we can keep mason and nelson and maybe zubar but its looking unrealistic. At this moment in time though we need some decent midfielders to play alongside fletcher.
Westernmac..........your right we were in a train crash............the none stop flying toady express, no breaks and no idea.
