I know we've moved on - a long way - but I thought this was of interest: Where did it all go wrong for Jozy Altidore in the Premier League? http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/oct/09/jozy-altidore-usa-striker-premier-league
Nice enough bloke but Premier League Centre Forward? No chance. When he was at City I doubted if he'd ever actually headed a ball before and his positional sense was non existent. He would probably have been sensational as a rugby league player. Most people who cannot play football usually are.
He was never as good as some people liked to think Put an average player in a poor side & he will look good, but that's because those around him are poor. I think it's only the ex-pat City fans who ever rated him, but he's at best a Heskey wannabee, and Heskey was a donkey
Am I the only one who spotted this? "He is now in his second go-around in the Premier League, 43 appearances in, and has just three goals to his name with the Black Cats." Did his season with us not count? Lazy journalism.
Yeah, but he signed for Sunderland LAST season, which would surely make this his third go round wouldn't it?
I just read it as being his second attempt with a Premier League team. It will also be his last attempt.
I skim read this article yesterday and couldn't be arsed to comment. I've just reread it. It really is a poor piece of hack journalism. It doesn't actually mention us at all btw, although the 'second go-around in the Premier League, implies us, I guess. Clumsy phase however. Altidore was meant to be the next big thing in American sacca because Villarreal spunked $10 million on him. He has a decent goal scoring record for the national team. He is obviously a bit of a flat track bully, hence his success at AZ Alkmaar. He is not now, nor ever will be a player good enough for the top leagues in the world however. He is too slow and cumbersome. His anticipation is a notch off the top. His finishing is poor or at best inconsistent. All he did for us was to fall over a lot and persuade the officials that that must have been a defenders fault. I haven't seen a lot of him playing for Sunlan ( no one has!), but from what I have seen he hasn't really improved his game in any significant way.
But then it'd be his third attempt because he had one with us and one with Sunderland last season. Which would surely make this his third effort at being a Premier League footballer? Agreed though, his last days. He'll be in Malaysia this time next year.
He's been in Premier League twice, so this is his second attempt, it's not very well written, but it's obviously what they meant.
Ah I see, they could've just said "second team in the Premier League." Hmmm. I appear to have gone full ****** today. I am Happy Tiger and you can expect your £5 in the post.
