I hated playing football through most of my school years, and I never got into any school teams or anything.

But during my last couple of years in school/college, despite not going to a football training session in my life, I realised, when I played, that I had a fantastic cross ability, and great freekick and corner delivery.

My friends said I should try out for a team, but I didn't listen. I just naturally knew how to put power and technique on a delivery, since I was only a nipper.

I feel bad about it, but I'm glad I didn't get too carried away. My touch was ****ing awful. I played as a right midfield player for most of my young years, but never had the passion for football until I was 15, and It was too late really.

I think it shows that some people are naturals, but passion for the game and upbringing counts.

Anyone have any good footballing skill in them?

Obviously I had outstanding natural talent as a lad, that's why I'm on here talking about the game instead of being talked about...

I was ok at football, good for my age up til around 10, I just never got any better. When I went to a Sunderland Academy summer programme I was the youngest to win a prize, second, for being top-scorer in the five-a-side... I won a signed Kevin Phillips poster.

Played for my local youth team after that, but they had too many strikers (go figure), so I played left-back. Not really that interesting to me, especially considering these are the years youth football coaches told you to just lump it forward, the biggest lad (CB) takes all the free-kicks/goal-kicks/corners, the smallest guy is in goal. Moved schools a lot and played for every team, in every position. The only time I got to be CF was when I came on as a sub at a corner kick, I headed the ball narrowly over after losing my marker and was never selected by that coach again... I moved school after that and was straight in again. I then had a trial for a Uni team as a striker (got myself fit... so much so on the warm-up laps I passed everyone at least twice), took my astro-turf boots because we were to meet outside the sportshall so I assumed (like any logical person) that the trial was inside. No such luck. It had pissed down the night before, so I was sliding everywhere and could barely move without slipping up, straining my groin in the process. Didn't make the cut, which I still think was harsh because I did play really well apart from the slips. Oh well, was never going to be a footballer <ok>

My brother was in the Leeds Academy, so he must have had some natural talent. He was let go when their funding was cut, though.

I'm a left footer, rare commodity. As a result I've always been played on the left, even though I think I can cut it as an AM as I have very good vision and ability to play a pass(Cabaye-esque).
The problem was that I have always had below-par stamina and winger is the most tiring position on the field and that becomes a problem for me getting playing time. Was in the school team, a lot of coulda shouldas, had I improved my stamina I would've been a surefire starter at left midfield... Couldn't juggle schoolwork and working on fitness myself and training sessions with the team so was just a fringe player mostly(Think Marveaux)

I had a trial for Everton and the training academies when I was about 15. was paired up with someone called Daniel Cadamatri and we where thus included in a 6 a side team because as a pairing we where good. We ripped teams apart but to be honest he was by far the better player. We where both forwards and needless to say he got the trial. I went back home and the rest is history.

I used to have pace and a knack for finishing being in the right place at the right time, but as I got older and slower I had to adapt my game to be more technical.

I am 22, smoker, Suffer from sciatica after a nasty 10ft fall on concrete steps in august.

    4 days ago or so
I beat 3 16 year olds vrs me in the small pitch next to the cross roads in fenham. 8-10 to me. i made them play 10 so they couldnt call it luck :). anyway football ftw

But the problem was i could barely lift my legs to put my trousers on for work for the next couple of days.

I had no particular talent, I'm very fast and can cross a still ball well so played right wing. I played for my University team (so was pretty good) but I only shine if its a big pitch and i can knock the ball past my opponent and sprint past them, i was terrible at 5-a-side and small pitches.

Mostly I would compare myself with Tresor Lomana Lua-Lua. Hard to mark or play against, hard to play alongside. When it works it looks fantastic and I certainly had games where I won it for my team but more often than not i would knock the ball past two or three people and then out of play.
