A mate 'retired' from the police force 10 years ago aged 50 earning £30k a year. He started back in the same station the following Monday doing the same job earning £60k.
Sadly, I am a straight, white, English, meat-eating middle-aged male, so I have no shot at a role like this.... Not hat I want to take a pay cut to take this role, more just a statement of the type of person they would look for to fill this role....
Are you sure he didn't just earn his original £30k salary RP, but including his pension it became £60k?
Yes. On the Friday he was receiving his salary, £30k a year. The following Monday he carried on earning his £30k salary PLUS he began receiving his £30k annual Police pension. And quite soon he will also receive his approximate £9k annual State pension. I say good luck to him.
Absolutely - that's a very good pension, but policing is a VERY stressful job. Horrible hours too - and £30k isn't a great compensation for dealing with some of the unpleasant situations and scumbags they have to deal with. My son works for Wiltshire Police in their 999 Devizes call centre, but just before Christmas he was accepted into the 'proper' force as a police constable and is just waiting for his start date.
Cheers RP - I am He frustrates the HELL out of me with the way he behaves at home and his millennial attitude, but being a copper is all he ever wanted to do. He studied for it at Uni and after a series of minimum-wage dead-end jobs he's finally got there at 27. He's on the shortlist for the Gibraltar police force too - now THAT is a job I would have loved to do when I was younger. I can't wait for his passing-out parade...! PS - He was an 'LJ Out' man too
R&W your boy's view about LJ speaks volumes to me. Is he aware, not that I like to the pot boiling, that Gibraltar found out that LJ qualified to play for them. Surprisingly, he was deemed not good enough.
Yes he was aware - we spoke about that!! I think he qualified through his mother or grandmother, but I thought HE turned THEM down after they had approached him (I haven't Googled it - you might be correct)
They're top of their Euro group and about to be promoted - and that's despite LJ not playing for them!
