Stan Collymore has named Grant Holt in his team to lead the line for England in the Euro's and is biggin' him up bigtime. Surprisingly, several callers have agreed with him (others have poo-pooed obviously without giving any good reason!). Is GH really good enough ? Would be nice to think so
That man is very excitable If it was five live, then It would be more credible It's been said before, he deserves a chance against Belgium or whoever is next up
I agree he deserves a chance in England's next friendly just to see how he fares, but I doubt he'll get that chance. I do think Ruddy will be called up, but wouldn't be surprised if he isn't.
kickitoff, someone told me the other day that stan collymore was really pushing for holty to be included so its great that he's sticking to that agenda! all anyone is asking for is that he is given a chance in a friendly - lets see what he can do!
Would love to see Grant Holt play for England, I'd probably even cheer for them. He is just not an international footballer. However being good enough for International football and being good enough for England are entirely seperate things, he'd give the team a different option maybe, big, strong, full of running, hard work, full of endeavour.........................erm better scrap the different option bit.
"I Support Norwich City"<Insert However>"Insert Negative Comment"<Feel as if I know What I'm Talking About>
Sorry Beef am I being stereotypical to the English formula. Shame on me, I forgot we were blessed with talent. Stan Collymore must be right, he is just about the most intelligent, thought provoking commentator out there, he's just not the kind of guy to jump on those band wagons to get those callers in. I'll reiterate, Holt is probably good enough for England (most are), but he's not good enough for International football, you know that as well as I do.
You mean like he wasn't good enough to step up to Championship level and then wasn't good enough to step up to Premiership level eh Carrabuh?
If he does get picked mind his head doesn't get turned with all the hype, good example of someone playing well then losing the plot is Jay Bothroyd
I for one would be very surprised if such an accolade went to his head, he has always appeared to be a very level headed individual and certainly not a big time charlie
I would liken talkSPORT to the 'Sun' newspaper, everybody slags it off but then buys/listens to it because, those annoying adverts aside, it is good entertainment. It is certainly not as 'PC' as R5L anyway I admit that I listen to talkSPORT everyday, I especially like the 'drivetime' show as Adrian Durham and Darren Gough are complete twats, meaning I can unwind by swearing and spitting at the car radio on the way home
To be honest, while it is refreshing to have "one of ours" up in lights, if we have to rely on the likes of Collymore then it is not so great as it was not that many years ago that his own expertise was dogging. I think that England footy is just like the cricket where it would always help if you played for Surrey, Middlesex or Essex or in footy - Liverpool, Arsenal or Man. United. If we won the league then we would possibly get a player in the 22.
So if you have certain sexual orientations you can in no way have a valid opinion on football ? You might as well say that because of Paul Jewell's previous sexual exploits he is in no way fit to manage a football club ..........Oh, hang on a minute
i don't listen to talksport myself but follow stanley on twitter and i have to say, i find him a very erudite man when talking about football. i'm not sure his past misdemeanours 'come into it' (quiet at the back) - when someone as knowledgeable as him talks football you tend to listen. he's got some very interesting views on all levels of the game
Aside from Wayne Rooney I really don't think there is a better English striker than Holty. Not deluded, just seen him enough to know the truth!
