I've got a Micromega CD player giving me a 'no disc' error all the time and as it's a proper bit of kit, I'd rather go with a specialist repair place.

    Any ideas? Kempton?

They had a place in Pocklington as well but it closed, so I don't know whether they closed totally or just in Pock?

Eyup mate, as WS has already said Fanthorpes in Hepworths arcade is the one. They used to do the repairs for Zen audio where you probably bought it from in the first place. They don't rip you either.

I'm guessing you've tried cleaning the laser first?

I haven't tried anything with it, I didn't want to risk buggering anything up.

Chances are the lasers buggered in which case you're usually better off just getting a new head unit, depends how flashy it is.

But it's surprising how often the laser just gets a bit mucky and stops reading discs. It's worth getting a cleaner just to have about and run through occasionally anyway but don't get one of the crappy cheapo ones with the brushes it'll do more harm than good so I'm told.

Is it a blu-Ray/DVD/cd home cinema thingamajig? With my experience of them, they're always fecking up.

Do laser cleaner discs actually work?

I normally open things up and give them light clean with Isopropyl.

Best to take to Fanthorpes though. They used to charge a base fee of £20 to have a look, then if expensive to fix they'd give you a ring to confirm. £20 was refundable off fixing fee or none refundable if not fixed.

Yes. The one I was told to get had these little pads on that you had to put a cleaning solution on. That definitely worked.

The solution will have been isopropyl based. Interesting. Sounds easier than manual cleaning. Might buy one for various things.
