I'm visiting Durham uni later today, but there seem to be two different places that I need to go! I'm visiting Josephine Butler college, but according to google there are two places with the same name, anyone know their way around the university??

Josephine Butler College is out of the city a bit, at least 30 mins walk I would guess from the centre. It is opposite the golf course and next to Ustinov College. http://www.dur.ac.uk/map/index.php?campus=queens

Best of luck for today. Hope all goes well for you.

It's opposite Mount Oswald golf course. If your heading back into Durham, stop off at the new inn pub a 5 minute walk down the bank.... That's a decent student haunt.

You'll fit right in at the uni, being from Jersey.

Just got back, it was very nice, a bit posh though... Not too sure at the moment between Durham and Lancaster.

I'd have thought the proximity to the ground would have swung it?!!

wash your mouth out Jersey and in all seriousness, for your future career, Durham on your CV will mean a lot, honest.

Night life wise and for social stuff and as a place to live, Durham is a great city. However in my experience (prepared to be shot down here!) while the university has a world famous reputation, you do get quite a few hooray henry's there which will not suit everyone. The proximity to SoL is a definite plus though.

Have you been to Lancaster yet? My son is in his final year at Lancaster and he has had a great time. It is a smallish university town, quite self-contained but not completely university focused, which suits him perfectly. Lancaster is about 2 hours drive away from SoL, so is a lot closer than Jersey.

Best of luck with your choice, don't forget to keep us up to date.

Yep, I went to lancaster on Saturday, it was great but a bit of a bugger to get to (tbh where isn't from Jersey!), it seems a good campus and the towns still bigger than anywhere back home! I'll need a think, the deadlines not for another couple of months, but Durham and lancaster will definitely be voices 1 and 2

Jersey you go to Lancaster over Durham, be prepared for some stick bonny lad.

Don't forget, Durham is on the river that leads to the greatest City in the NE of England.

Travel up it the other way and find your self in some of the most beautiful dales in the country.

    Lancaster! <spit>
