The feeling of another special season in the making? Since Pearson left and we've witnessed what attacking football we can play, I just get that same feeling when we went on that great run to get to the play off final. Greatness is on the horizon.
I think January will be important for us. I still don't think Gulacsi is good enough. Lack of depth at centre half worries me and I think we lack a striker who can hold the ball up and make chances from very little. If we could shift the little bit of dead wood we have lying around, McShane, Kilbane and Olofinjana and bring in a goalie, a reliable back-up defender and a striker in the Chris Wood mould, I think we've got everything it takes to challenge the top 2.
I think oli McShane if we can't shift provide cover in the centre and defence. Not great in the prem, but perfect for this league. Oli is pretty handy in midfield, tall and a goal threat from midfield and set pieces. I think 2 strikers (you need 3/4 to be a threat most of the season) and a keeper.
It does kinda feel like it's really warming up rather nicely. What I like and I have commented such on another thread, is that we are now playing very good passing football and keeping the ball. Our posession away at coventry at the weekend was very high for the away team and in most games certainly over the last 4-5 weeks we are keeping the ball far better. After all, when we have the ball the opposition have to work hard to get it back. I like Barmby's way of thinking, He is encouraging the players to express themselves and be confident in what they do, and it looks far better than Pearson's tactics. With long term injuries now clearing up and with a couple of shrewd signings in January, I see no reason why we can't finish in the top two, I really feel we can do it if the team remain focused which is what NB has instilled into them.
Somebody mentioned Simon Cox on aother thread as loan from West Brom, thik he'd be a good player to have on the books. Think we need another goalkeeper and back up in defence. Midfield seems to have sorted itself out nicely with the continuing improvements of Evans, Mckenna and Koren and Garcia, Cairney and ossibly olifinjana as back up. May need a winger if brady goes back to United. Expect Simpson to leave and maybe a couple of others, loan or permanent.
i have a very good feeling, i have been quite cautious in the past, but when somebody asked me today if he thought wed make play offs, without hesitation i replied ive seen nothing to stop us getting in the top 2... hopefully that is a sign my oldself is coming back after a certain boring twat, nearly sucked all my hull city life out of me for 18 months..
I still don't believe why someone approves the 5 players bench rule!! 7 was perfect to face every possibility during the games.
Agree with this and dj's post completely. Also, when was the last time we didn't get promotion in a leap year? [NSFW]Okay, we only did it two leap years in a row.[/NSFW]
AGREED. But we shall know a whole lot more by the middle of February after the Bristol City home game. But yes i do feel that something special is brewing just nicely now.
it was a majority Vote by all FL clubs. trouble is most championship clubs were out voted by leagues 1 + 2. another reason to get back to the PL. able to name 7 subs again.
would we ? names such as East, Bradley - Cooper - Barmby(maybe) - Emerton to name but a few who could have been named ?
I didn't mean literally. There's always 'arps. We've got a bench of five at the moment and we're sticking a left-back into midfield as our only real change. makes a bench of 7 pointless to us.
well saturday we needed 6 places as Dele had to be dropped to make way for Garcia. With Brady now available for the Millwall game who is gonna make way for Brady on the bench ? i would think it will be Cairney who was poor @ Saints. so now more than ever the 7 sub places are needed. With Oli due back soon places really are up for grabs and thats just on the subs bench.
It's good that we now have the same positive expectations for both home and away games. When Brown was here we would have written off 90% of our away games and Saturday's result would have been exceptional for us. I think it shows the confidence of the team and under Barmby City now attack at away games which shows how much the lads believe in themselves.
One of the good things about this season is that we seemed to have balanced our home and away form out, last season we struggled at home, the season before it was away from home. The last time I can remember us striking such a balance was in 2007/08.
Always liked the seven substitutes rule as it gave the opportunity to stick a youngster on the bench. Throw him in if you was winning comfortably. Can't understand the logic to stop it, wasn't the excuse so young players would leave on loan? even though I don't agree as you still would keep some back as back up, wouldn't that be more beneficial to adopt in the prem as there youngsters have the most potential?
Been saying all season we had a decent chance to make the play offs under NP ... And now under NB we still have a decent chance , NB is doing much better then I thought he would . Important we don't become like leicester city fans and start saying we will make the top 2 or win the league .. Though we can all hope ...
