Our old PE teacher Mr Benson is not the first teacher from my era at the school to have been using girls... TOP athletics coach Stephen Benson was today found guilty of a further four charges of rape. Yesterday, the former Copleston High School teacher was convicted of 15 sexual offences on teenagers, including five rapes. Of the 21 charges he faced, Benson was convicted of 19 – nine rapes, two counts of sexual activity with a child and two sex assaults on a teenager. He was remanded in custody until his sentencing, which will take place during the week commencing April 29. The convictions relate to sexual attacks on three teenagers, which took place over a period of 20 years. The jury at Ipswich Crown Court brought back its verdicts on the final six allegations this afternoon. Benson, who was a coach with Ipswich Harriers and also taught PE at Copleston High School in Ipswich, was convicted of 11 sex assaults on one woman, who was aged between 15 and 18 when the offences took place. These included five rapes and six indecent assaults. The 50-year-old, of Pearson’s Way, Copdock, was also convicted of two counts of sexual activity with a child and two sex assaults on another teenager. Benson had denied all 21 charges which were said to have taken place over a period of 20 years.
