I know its early days, but we've seen attackers, gk's and defenders but no def mid's

DM is like being a goalkeeper. It's rare that a team that only plays one proper DM has a very good backup DM too who is happy to sit on the bench rotting.

 

Just throw Toure there if Lucas gets injured.

Couldn't give a flying **** who we are linked to, its who we sign that matters. I will be disappointed if we don't get a DM, having only one in our squad is as bad as going into a season with only Suarez that can play up top!

Although on FM (i've guided us to the top of the Prem after 20 games and qualifyed by 5 points out of our Europa league group - only play with players we have) Coady is awesome as DM

Banega isn't really a DM but would take him in a heartbeat to find the passes. Mulumbu, Gonalons, Lars or Sven Bender, Capoue, options are out there and the prices all range to fit the need.

 

I am concerned about it yes. I think gerrard needs to be back there using his passing range to get us going but he is not going to be disciplined enough to stay back and we need cover anyway. Someone even to come in v the big 4 and let us push gerrard on a bit so we are more solid.

 

Kind of true. But GK's dont run around, they dont face many heavy tackles and dont tire so much, if at all. Playing DM can be more demanding on the body. DM do get injured a bit more and because they play such a big physical role they do face suspensions from time to time (though Lucas avoids this pretty well, unlike Mascerano).

A lot of teams have a back DM who also plays another position. Chelsea have Luiz who mostly plays CB for example.

I'd happily see Toure fill in at DM if need be.

 

Gerrard and Lucas can both do adequate jobs at DM. Allen is also decent. Hope we sign that guy from Shakhtar

 

Papadonkesaurus (as Zingy calls him) apparently can do a job as DM.
