Towards the back end of last season, alot of people were mentioning their transfer predictions and I thought this season our squad would be one of the favourates to go up, but now It doesn't look like were making any major improvements (except Dudgeon). People mentioned names like Mannone in goal with Eilhoff or Guzan back-up, either Ayala or Hobbs to sign perm/loan alongside Chester, Danns in CM alongside Evans, a new LW. And at the minute, we seem to be in a bit of a mess. I'm ok with Guzan as a back-up but not too keen as a first choice (don't know about Eilhoff). Haven't heard a peep about Hobbs or Ayala and linking us to Shackell (now Derby-bound) seems a step down. Koren possibly leaving to Nurenburg. Danns looking City-bound seems out the window, Norris has gone and now McKenna looking the most likely to join (don't know much about him but doesn't seem to have the 'wow factor' that Danns has). And finally Dele ****ing Adebola! Were does this leave us now... ?GK? Rosie ?CB? Chester Dudgeon Stewart Evans ?McKenna? ?Koren? Fryatt Simpson. It just doesn't look as promising as it first seemed, but hopefully, i'm wrong!
Of all the people we definitely want, only Danns has interest from other clubs. Mannone, Guzan, Eilhoff, Ayala, Hobbs, etc haven't gone anywhere. Everyone needs to calm down and give it a few weeks.
We've got an £800k bid in for Hobbs, I expect he'll be ours before long. It doesn't take much to make that team look decent, we're still looking to bring in seven players and there's three weeks to pre-season and almost eight weeks to the start of the season, now is far to early to be panicking. That said, I'd feel much happier if we got the overpaid players off the books so we could start looking at some higher quality additions.
CB wise, anyone think Cooper will get a chance this season or go back out on loan. Unless I missed something and we sold him? Also, maybe give Cairney a chance on the left side of midfield.
The fact West Ham have gone out and signed Kevin Nolan shows how hard this league is going to be next season.
Well said Theo and OLM of the players you listed, not much has happened: Mannone - Still waiting on Arsenal to sort out there keeper situation out Guzan - Villa are in turmoil, and fee been wanted, Einhoff - Still under contract in Germany, wont be free until end of June Hobbs - Bid in, waiting for Leicester to sort out there CBs Ayala - Nothing heard about him, trained with U21's, likely to be on holiday now Shackell - Will cost £1m, would prefer Ayala over him Norris - Was always going to go for pay day Danns - Nothing decided yet, likely to go to Rangers, fair play to him Certainly no reason to panic yet, wait until pre season starts, if we dont have players in within a week of pre-season starting I might get slightly concerned. I am certain that Pearson and Walsh have lots of business lined up, we just are not privvy to it
Any news on ANY forward who can put the ball in the back of the net with some semblance of regularity?
its disappointing but end of the season/pre-season its like this always lots of rumours and things flying about and nothing actually happens, then we have a flurry of activity
Not sure who that would be other than Josh King. United have two stellar attacking midfielders in Pogba and Morrison in the reserves, but up front they don't seem to have that much only King and Ajose. King is exactly what we need in that he is a true centre forward but he lacks the necessary experience to be good at Championship level. Ajose is fast, talented and has good experience now, but he isn't a CF, he's a Cam Stewart type (wouldn't mind seeing him in amber and black for all that!!)
A Man Utd loanee? Nobody could have guessed that. As for the main subject of the thread, I'm not at all disappointed with how the transfer window is going, it's going very much as expected.
Have to agree. I expected the Pearson's to wrap up Dudgeon and Evans quickly and then get on with trying to get in the free signings they want but couldn't approach until June. I expected them to go about it quietly rather than shouting through the News Of The World about ridiculous targets they were never going to get and announcing "blow your socks off" deals that never happened. Very refreshing.
I guess it is disappointing that we haven't seen much happen so far, but plenty of teams are in the same boat and there's still 8 weeks till the season starts. They haven't even released the fixtures yet! (granted that is tomorrow). The last few transfer windows we've being used to us announcing our targets loud and clear, building our expectations and then getting turned down by these players and being disappointed. We all know the current management team like to keep their cards close to their chest, and as has been said once we enter July when contracts are up we may see more movement. We may well be indulging in plenty of transfer activity as we speak, but the Pearsons and co are making sure nothing becomes public knowledge until everything is signed sealed and delivered. If we haven't made much progress by the end of July, then yes we have every right to be disappointed, but let's wait and see what happens first.
