Any word on Situ or Remy?

Any word on whether we have signed them, or when a decision is meant to be made?

 

I was wondering this too. Usually you here something quite early about trialists that make it and hear nothing about trialists that dont cut it, like Mamadou Doucoure... I'd have these two, or at least Situ would have been good enough considering their international credentials and our lack of centre back prospects.

It could be down to sorting out some sort of payment to Lens though. They werent completely out of contract with them were they?

 

I seem to recall someone saying the decision was somepoint this week, and to me the fact that the club acknowledged them both by name on the official website inclines me to believe they are quite keen to sign them. Plus, apparently Pardew had said they were working on deals for two players "who were in the building", which again makes me think Situ and Remy.

I would have both of them tbh. It wouldn't be that expensive and, if you look at it from a business perspective (i.e. Mike Ashley mode) then it makes sense: buy cheap potential, potentially sell high. I'm not 100% what their contract status was tbh, but I'm assuming that if they weren't expired they would be close to it. Would be nice to hear something soon, that in addition to the senior left back and striker we are pursuing, we have also bolstered our defensive options by signing two young French youth international centre backs!

 

I was interested in that comment by Pardew. I also assumed he meant the two trialists. We need some defensive cover so I think those two would be welcome. I'm pretty sure they were out of contract as Lens had to release a number of youth players to cut costs. At least I'm sure I read that somewhere, same for Abeidi. I did think it was strange given their pedigree (all french youth internationals). You don't give talent away for free. (unless its Joey Barton!) It shows how different things can be viewed different ways though, a couple of my mates are convinced he's on about Barton and Colo?

 

A new deal for Colo would be nice, but surely that can be dealt with outside of the window, you would hope. Bringing in two such promising players (Situ looks to have the physical presence to be considered an option from the get go, I haven't seen any pictures of Remy) would greatly strengthen our central defensive ranks, and they would learn a great deal from the likes of Captain Colo.

I must admit, I do take a great interest in the youth side of our team. I like to see us bringing in promising young talent alongside our academy products, as well as the necessary senior players. Hopefully, though, the manager will be willing to blend them into the side, which he doesn't always seem to want to do.

 

Hopefully we can tie them up this week, and so have full energies on singing a couple of players on deadline day.

It's good that we are singing youth players that are nearly ready for the team, as we can give them runs in the cup games (as I'm sure we will with Abeid).

 

It should always be a cornerstone of the club. You could argue we're only doing it now because its a cheaper way to run the club, but the reasons for it happening are unimportant. They bring enthusiasm and a fearless attitude do young players, and provided you have the right mix, are a vital cog in a successful side and healthy club. I don't expect my mates are correct, it would make sense with two trialist in house that Pardew was talking about them. This thing over Colo, saying he could be for sale, just doesn't add up to me. I just can't see how they think it would be good business sense to flog their captain.

I took the two deals to mean players we already have on new contracts like Danny Simpson and wasn't sure about the other one... But i'd certainly like to believe it was these two. You are right in the fact that the club mentioning them by name shows some promise. I dont think Doucoure was ever really mentioned the same...

Lens getting rid of these youth players to cut costs does seem a little weird considering how much they could potentially get for them. Abeid was a great buy, these seem to have a good history and a very promising future and they managed to get £10million or so for Varane... Not that i'd complain if these were actually 'free's'.

Moyo is coming along nicely too in the youth teams/reserves.

Hopefully hear something soon on these two though.
