How crushing must it be for his confidence, never to get a game ahead of the worst player of the championships?

Rodgers will have to work wonders to give him any confidence for next season. Best sell him to a conference side for 2 buttons and bag of crisps!

Downing just needs time. I'v seen players recover from worse spells.

    saw a joke earlier:
"Downing has been one of the few England players to live up to expectations, matching his premier league goals and assists totals in the Euros despite not playing"

lets be honest Liverpool fans......if Downing was not playing for your club but someone else had purchased him for such a price then you would also be facepalming him.

However it is a pointless exercise by England to pick an alternative yet to not deploy him whilst the first choice is playing absolutely **** and for that reason im glad they got locked out..the likes of Germany and Spain dont have a problem benching Gomez and Toress but England cant bench bloody Ashley Young.

  8. There is not one Liverpool claiming Downing to be a great player. In fact, the general consensus is that "Downing couldn't have done worse than Young" which is in no way praising Stewart but completely critcising Ashley's performances <ok>

Fair play GCS..all in all this little England set uo showed the same cracks as the teams that have gone in former tournaments...we dont have people big enough to make the correct major calls.

i.e starting Rooney when the team was doing well.

instead it effected Carroll and he wasnt the same in his sub appearences.

aaah well roll on the new season..im bored of sharpening my tongue for the 10 months of football bliss and tantrums coming up.

p.s its reported that we might be pipping u to the signing of Sigurdsson

  10. Starting Rooney didn't just upset a winning side, it also sent out the wrong message to the players. It told the likes of Welbeck, Carroll and Defoe that it didn't matter how well they played, they will be dropped for Rooney regardless. It also told Rooney he would play no matter what happens. Continuing to pick Young and Milner was, albeit to a lesser degree, the same too.

Will Siggy join you guys though...? You have a better starting eleven but you guys can only offer the same as us, Europa League football with a promise of challenging for Champions League football. Only differences being that we don't need to qualify for Europa League and he obviously favours Brendon Rodgers. I guess time will tell...<ok>

PS - we have the Olympics before the season starts...<whistle>
