http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...hley-young-sale-fund-bid-peterborough-striker I sort of predicted this a few weeks ago......though I actually thought Mackail Smith's contract was out this Summer (maybe it is?) Still....if Peterborough aren't promoted I would imagine that we would love to have him at Watford......and should Young move there would be some money there for us to acquire/pay his wages.
Let's hope so, Moose, but the radio station were yesterday reporting that he's likely to stay at Villa...
I think no regardless of whether Posh get promoted or not they wont let him leave for anything under 3million and even then they regected offers from Norwich/Hull i believe. Speaking to my sources lately he is very highly rated and very much like DG as in a fan favourite and works his socks off for the badge.
i doubt he'll move, though i wouldn't say he doesn't want to. They will fight to keep him, he scored well over 30 goals this season, you can't blame them for holding onto him as tightly as they can.
I can see him moving on ,but not to us ! we cant afford the sort of fee he will command! ,although if he goes for more money than DG there is something badly wrong!
No CMS wont be joining us, we cannot be skint and then start to compete for players who are "worth millions". I would like to think DG carries a premium over CMS as he has done it at a higher level, so add at least a million? Also bear in mind Carlisle will get 15% of ANY fee when DG moves, this will add up - a ã2.5m transfer equals ã375k, plus the QPR offer includes a rumoured ã500k bonus should they stay up. So the maths are QPR's bid of ã2.5m is ã1m cash up front (less ã375k to Carlisle), ã1m cash later and another ã500 ONLY if they stay up ....... and frankly knowing QPR to be a "car crash waiting to happen" they will be back at the Vic in 2012/13. And we need to clear ã10m of the ã15m debt asap - Malky will probably get about ã500k of any DG fee, so who wants to bid for CMS now?
i have just done a little bit of maths, and assuming AY does go for the 15mil he is expected to go for and we get 5mil for DG (which is unlikely) we will end up with 5,150,000 (counting for Carlisle's cut of DG's transfer). Bassini stated clearly that he would give 30% of transfer income to MM to spend, therefore he gets a total of 1,545,000 to spend. This would cover buying AT if needs be, Mboro are less likely to let him go for free if they dont have to, and buying a couple of others for about 400K leaving him with change for anyone else next year. However this does not give us the money to spend on CMS as Bassini is unlikely to stump up about 2.5-3mill.
CMS is one of the few players I can genuinely have a claim to know something about having been close friends at school. Admittedly I haven't seen him for years now but our mums (yes, that is what i said) still see each other on a weekly basis which means I regularly hear the latest news regarding him that is never published, I don't bother posting most of it as it usually comes to nothing and I don't want to be labelled as some sort of WUM. However, next year is the last year of his contract and his wages would fit within our structure even with an increase. Holding out for ã3mil is unlikely for a player so close to the end of the contract and he will def not sign another one as he has a rather difficult relationship with Darren Ferguson and the setup at Peterborough. Add to that the fact he was 'promised' that they would sell in the summer after they rejected the Norwich move in january. Certainly wouldn't say he will be coming here as even if we could put the money on the table there may be better offers on the table from other clubs. He is a Watford fan and we have enquired after him in the past, he is not greedy and would def play for us for less than others would offer (although being realistic if someone was offering double what we could...) To surmise that ramble I'm certainly not saying that he will def be here etc but it might not be as unrealistic as some suggest.
In my heart of hearts I can't see it happening. They have a combination of manager and chairman that would demand heaven and earth for the player, and be prepared to cut off their noses to spite their faces (threaten to play him in the reserves for a year) if they felt that they needed to. That, combined with interest from richer clubs and the fact that we cannot buy until we have the Graham money, makes it too big a mountain to climb in my book. We will be signing at least one, quite possibly two strikers, but I don't think CMS will be one of them. At the risk of sounding like Kevin Keegan, I'd love it if I'm wrong, love it. And I'd settle for second place in the league, after dominating the early months.
Wishful thinking aside you may well be right NNW. I know he would like it and we would like it but there are numerous obstacles between those two things! He is engaged to Barry Fry's daughter though, don't know if that helps or hinders...!!
hockdude - Fella I go to games with (lives in Grovehill) has the same view as you - his daughters boyfriend knows CMS as well and has said for years that he would love to play for us. But as you say, there are many other factors...
