I was thinking at how deluded manc fans are, and to be honest having a bit of a giggle about it, to myself. But then I started thinking, was I any different to them in 1993? Did I accept that our reign was over? All the evidence was there, we were buying players like István Kozma, Torben Piechnik, Ronnie Rosenthal, Paul Stewart, Neil Ruddock and Julian Dicks! I mean how deluded was I and probably many of my fellow fans not to comprehend that my beloved club had well and truly fallen off a big ****ing cliff, if this was the kind of dross we were bringing in. So while we are all having a good laugh at man U's back 3/4 today, should we cut their fans some slack, as it has probably not yet hit them, that they are not nothing more than mid-table fodder?
No Not really. Should we feel sympathy for Leeds fans for the **** they've had to endure since their mini revival in the 2000s? Sure in a few years when they've spent more money than Citeh they'll be back in the race.
there are 3 important points. 1. utd never did a thing to us nor owed us anything so apportioning some "karma" or other such nonsense to their present state is silly. i'm long on record about bolloxology like fergie time or webb and so forth. they worked and earned everything they got.... which is also how they got to here... by ferguson not bringing in staff to carry on the work as he aged and telling it bomb 2. utd's owners despite the glee are not half as shambolic as david moores and woodward aint rick parry. utd have massive revenues and finance as di maria proves 3. Utd aint near 1993 and this is lfc wishful thinking. If lfc want to consign utd to also rans WE BETTER OUT WORK AND OUTPERFORM THEM NOT JUST HOPE THEY ARE BUSTED so thats my view. the only way to rub the mancs nose in it is to go beat the f'rs up this season. its too easy to hope they'll do it for us and we'll just default 4th the league is too competitive and i'd rather use the motivation of grinding their gears cos spurs and everton can be as big a threat
It's not necessarily about spending money it's more about spending money on the right players. They have blown a huge amount on fellaini , mata with very little return. Now this season they have spent £75+ million on a highly rated ( in Spain ) midfielder, who I don't ever recall seing play, a very raw, young LB who is unlikely to ever to live up to the price tag and a 2nd/3rd choice CB/LB. Now they are spending an absolute fortune on a marquee signing who I don't believe is what they need. That's in excess of £200 million without addressing their problem areas. I know most clubs are guilty of buying unwisely (Carroll, downing, aqualani) but they seem to be masters of it at the moment. Fergie made some bum signings but there were always 2 that did well to every one that didn't. Sympathy...nah. Because they sure wouldn't show us any.
Last year no one gave us a chance look where we finished. They have no European football meaning they play their strongest team whenever its possible, They'll win a fair amount of games this season once they get going, they've got a good forward line. Problem for them is that teams now feel they can get a result against them so are willing to have ago, like Sunderland today and with Man U's defence being as poor as it is its likely they could end up on a few losses and draws. Hanging onto leads and breaking down counter attacking teams is where they could struggle. I still expect them to finish 5th. But no Sympathy, they caused their own problems by not capitalising on a league win, for letting Fergie pick his own successor who wouldn't be able to attract the players needed to rebuild the squad.
No. I didn't have any sympathy for australia in the cricket when England were hammering them and couldnt for the life of me understand why others were, and look how long that lasted.
It's very interesting. There is so much to take in to account, Man Utd are still in the process of transcending in to a new era but it's not aided by the fact virtually the whole of defence and midfield has required a major revamp. United still have a huge draw and globally bring in enough income to chuck money at the situation, but personally I think they've been too cautious with both Moyes and Van Gaal, I saw as the right time to usher someone in with new revolutionary ideas in the mould of Klopp, Simonne, Rodgers, Martinez etc. and build for the new era. But in my own eyes I see more papering over gaping cracks than anything else. The fans seem to go through phases of placing faith that the fresh acquisition, change or whatever will be the final jigsaw piece which is the game changer. Now in the form of Di Maria... I'm skeptical myself.
I seem to remember that Mata was going to change everything for them last Jan. Now they would happily see him sit on the bench for Di Maria or to accommodate RVP or Shrek.
I must say that the measure of van gaal will not be cups but will be club structure in 3 years time. He'll retire and if utd don't have a clear continental style structure with him at the helm as dof and a ton of new coaches etc I'll be surprised. Well we will see
Nope. On the evidence of the ones around me watching the match today they're a delusional bunch of arrogant ****heads who somehow still think that all these bad performances are a blip when it's clear as day they need a massive overhaul and play football with the speed of a bulldozer but none of its force. Absolutely ignorant fans who always, always cannot bring themselves to compliment another team's good or improved performance or that of a player from another team not their own. Who instead just make snarky, sly comments about other Prem teams and players. They also can't acknowledge the fact that any football team might have the ability to play at least as well or better than them. Van Gaal's actually alright though, he says the right things to protect his players but does it with a measure of honesty.
