Poyet has now come out again about the progress or lack of from Scocco. Can anyone tell me, how many times have the Reserves/U21's played since he arrived and how many if any has he featured in? Also...Fletcher, we've read all season he's struggling to shake off injuries and get match fit. He's been flung into the first team but how many times has he featured for the second string? Altidore, short of confidence and goals. How many times has he featured for the second string? What is the point in the reserves/u21 if it doesn't benefit the first team?
Plenty on the pitch. Oh, sorry mate, I thought you said statues. Good questions though, interesting to see the answers.
In fact none of them have played an u21 game all season. Wickham has played twice, Roberge once, that's pretty much it from the first team squad from what I could see.
Thanks Bri. There`s a facility there in the reserves being completely ignored? Could have done Altidore et al a power of good if utilised properly imo. Shocking that like.
Don't forget we've had long cup runs which take up mid week games. I also don't think reserve squads work like they used to. When really people like Altidore probably would have benefited from knocking a few in against **** opposition.
Scocco should have played in as many of them 6 as possible really to get him match fit. Noted that the cups may have had an impact and I think your only allowed X amount of over 21's in the side. For me though people like Larsson Giaccherini Altidore who didn't feature against West Ham should be turning out for the reserves to keep their match fitness up. Training won't do it. It needs to be competitive games even if its a lower standard. Could this be one reason we're struggling. example for instance, say Altidore doesn't get on against Spurs but then is in the starting line up against Cardiff. Would that be some three weeks since he actually played in an actual game? Seriously not good enough.
I don't know if there are specific rules in the "competitive" u21 games with regards to senior players. A few (like Bardsley) have played in the games but I truly don't know. If there isn;t a rule stopping it then I really can;t see a reason for not playing him
This is a very good question and we need to know the answer, for on face value it just does not make sense, not to give players who need it, some match time.
My thoughts exactly and one id ask if they dare for a q&a at the Stadium. The last one I know of was 2 seasons ago the night city beat United at the Etihad (April 2012 maybe)
