I'm working in Holland this week and saw his surname on a lorry and it triggered a memory... he was scary.

Yeah, I remember him falling in the disabled section at the Dell once! I think he spent some time in prison after he left us for importing stolen cars! I think!

Yeah I remember him from the mid nineties I think. Don't think he stayed very long. If I remember it right, it was Souness that brought him with him from Galatasaray, he was supposed to have been able to do the 100m in 10 secs so was very pacey.

yea i remember seeing him againt W Ham (94/95 i think), we won 2-0, he was like a rocket up the wing, no one could keep up with him, thought he was gonna be the Ace for us
i was sat behind Kriss Abakussi, him and his mates were W Ham fans, his mate offered my mate out and Kriss stepped in to stop it, we were in the wrong end the only way to get tickets back then

A talented player that only seemed to stay at the club a short while. Was labelled the next big Dutch star, but then so was Jelle van Damme none of whom really got a chance.

Van Damme didn't want a chance. He hated it here.

We spent quite a lot of money on him and then never really played him, was never really sure why!

He played when Souness was here then Dave jones got rid of him IIRC. I remember a game against Liverpool and Steve Mcmanaman got gobby to him after a challange and Van Gobbel just stood there pointing at his chin as if to say come on if you think your hard enough.

During the 3-1 win against Man U, Cantona was getting very stroppy and lashed out at UVG, hitting him in the chest. Where most footballers would have tumbled to the ground, rolling in agony, UVG just shook his head and laughed at Cantona. A class response !

Yep, remember him just about. Googled him the other day when I was doing a kind of "where are they now"... Ken Monkau is apparently running a pancake house....

The trouble with Van Gobbel was that he only had to touch shoulders with at a player and they would fall over!
I remember nearly every game i saw him play there was a free kick unfairly given against him, often in dangerous positions
It was a shame cos i always thought he was awesome
