After the last few games mig has been looking a bit off the pace. He really needs to be pushed harder and Jones ain't the man for that. mig looks like he doesn't have to try in training To retain his starting place and it's showing in the games. Any word on the valdes rumour. We really need a keeper to push mig or take his place sooner rather than later
Think the medical is supposed to be sometime in October, from what I remember. Not for at least a couple of weeks then if so.
Yep, Valdes is expected to prove his fitness in Oct/Nov - will be good to have him in the squad and give us some more experience and leadership at the back.
Also, I've heard from a number of people that our goalkeeping coaches/coaching is extremely outdated compared with the rest of the areas and the industry. We still have John Acterberg as the coach, who I believe joined once Angel Vales left. Coincidentally, this coincided with Reina's dip in form.
I agree we are stone age. It works a small bit but if you for example watch them warm up they have a few a FEW passing drills but it's not rushing out its clearance back passes out wide to full backs not sweeper keeper stuff.
glad you brought this up jimmy, as even though i have felt our keepers have made silly mistakes in games, it never seems to be rectified, and having a coach with ancient ideas does make sense now. not an excuse for how ****e our keepers have been, but it doesn't help surely.
I think Mignolet needs serious conditioning work. That goal the other night wouldn't have been such an issue if it didn't highlight firstly how slow Mig "sprinted" off his line and secondly how bad his agility is. From that position he found himself in, most keepers can dive and have a chance of blocking that shot or at least getting near to it. When Mig was strafing to his left, he was about 4/5 yards away from being able to throw himself to the ground, never-mind the ball.
In his defence, Lovren shouted for it and he should have dealt with it before Migs was ever needed. Then when it becamse apparent that Lovren wasn't getting to it, Migs rushed out but it was too late. Poor decision making from all round though, caused by indecision.
I agree that it wasn't entirely his fault, but it doesn't change the fact that occasionally a keeper will need to rush out as a last ditch line of defense. With lurch hobbling out like that, we do not have that safety blanket.
Yeah but if your defender calls you need to assume he knows what he's doing, Lovren called a pass he was never going to get and ended up conceding the goal.
I'm just going by what other people have told me (people who watch some of the training sessions) and his appointment appears to coincide with Reina's dip in form around 2010/2011. He could be a very good coach for all we know. The same happens the other way as well - the centre backs don't know if Migs is coming for a ball or not. There's a lack of communication and trust which needs to be ironed out.
