As an unsocial golfer (I play from the rough on one side to the rough on the other side and leave my playing partners to walk and talk on the fairway without me) who plays 2 or 3 times a year, cherish the 1 or 2 shots each round which convince you that if you keep at it then you could with a little bit more practice make a living on the European PGA tour.

Look at the ball. Make sure your club is still driving down when you make contact. Bring plenty of beer for when the golf turns to ****.

What sort of issues are you having? I am not exactly an amazing golfer (15 handicap) but I may be able to help.

Best thing you can do mate is pay to have 3 or 4 lessons before you fall back into old habits....worked a treat for me. Grip and rip it does not work, or at least not unless you're ****ing mint and know how to control your tee shots (draw/fade etc)...trying to lash it will just compound things. I very rarely take my driver out with me now cos I have a terrible slice which I cannot seem to shake and I can get decent distance with my 3 wood off the tee and keep it on the short stuff. Try a few different things at the driving range as well mate, try and get to one where you can hit some irons off the grass rather than the artificial stuff as well as it does make a difference, or even just find a club somewhere that has a practice area and just go and muck about for an hour or so. Practice practice practice is the best thing in all honestly but get yourself into a little routine before every shot which always helps me, stand behind the ball, look at where you're wanting the ball to go, then move round to where you're gonna play your shot and line your feet up (both feet) with where you want the ball to go, take a couple of practice swings and then go for it. Make sure you keep your head still, loads of pro's will give you loads of different advice about a load of different things but every one of them will tell you to keep your head down and still, your head should follow the club head so should never move before you've hit the ball. Work on your short game as well as that can easily save you 10-15 shots a round, and practice chipping on to greens from near the green as well, try some different clubs for chipping on and see what different results you get. If you chip on from around the green using a PW then aim for half way between the ball and the pin and you should end up not far off, try chipping on with an 8 or 9 as well but aim to hit the green closer to you as the ball will run further cos you don't have as much loft on your club, I took a leaf out of Seve's book and use a cheeky Seve 7 (iron) a lot of the time for chipping on when there's a bit of distance to the pin and you've got a decent sized green.

Hope i've helped mate, I was going round in 110-120 when i first started back up but I'm now regularly under the ton (90's) but did manage 16 holes at whitburn last year in 79 (lost 2 balls off the tee 2 holes in a row) so all it takes is practice and playing regularly and you'll get there :)

Good luck with it mate, stick at it...its a frustrating game but it's a great game when you're not losing balls and keeping it on the fairways etc...and the weather is good of course !!

Like anything, don't think you will rock up and do it well if you aren't practicing A LOT.

You know, I saw Leez playing yesterday. And I've got to tell you, this guy spends more time in the sand than David Hasselhoff!

    Classic Shooter
Jimiley who used to get on and carry out the formal induction/initiation was a golf coach I think. He'd have been able to help. You'll learn nowt on here so I won't bother destroying your game - lessons mate before habit's set in, make a massive difference. Just gets you a set up to fall back on

I am not the best of golfers and dont play too often at the moment but I would suggest trying a different course, I used to play longhirst hall a lot (it is a lovely course) when I was first starting to play and with all the water hazards out there it really hit my confidence.... and my score...... I started playing other courses like Parklands in Gosforth (not the greatest course but much easier) and saving the nice courses for a one off when I wanted something a bit better, I got my score down from around 110 at Longhirst to about 93 around Parklands and then eventually the scores around Longhirst started coming down.

This can help to be honest, good call. A forgiving course is a good way to go. I have played Longhirst a fair few times and it can be tricky. Definitely a course where you need to pick your way round. We all loving getting a driver out but with the hazards it just isn't worth it on some holes. The first time I played there I remember walking up to one of the holes and absolutely smoking my driver straight as a dye and with some serious length. My playing partner, a regular, just smiled, tee'd up his 3 iron and hit a nice straight shot. He said "you just looked at the length didn't you?" "Yeah I did" "Serious dog leg on this one fella, you're in the water hazard"

I'd try Parklands or even better Rothbury. Rothbury is so forgiving and short. You can drive many of the par 4's off the yellows. The greens are bowl like which means the ball will feed into the green even if slightly off line. A nice course to play.

I play Bedlington mainly and its not for the faint hearted. Pretty long and unforgiving. Probably one of the best courses around, but there are a couple of holes which will break you if you are not hitting decent. I mean the 16th soon becomes a par 5 if you are wayward. Some wide fairways but if you get off line it can be a bitch.

I love Linden Hall and to be honest I don't find that too tricky for some reason. Others who I play with think its a bit of a bastard.

Buy this book and read it over and over.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?k=Ben hogan

You must have a pre shot routine. Watch the pros, they all have one. Not just golfers - watch footballers taking free kicks, tennis players serving, rugby players kicking. It gets you in the "zone".

Don't try to hit long, focus on keeping it on the short stuff.

Finally and probably most important is to work on your short game. This is where the low scores come from.

Oh, and try not to hit the ball, just let the ball get in the way of your swing.

Keep your swing free and easy. Your pre shot routine will keep you relaxed.
