I usually like a flutter before the game on ft score or first scorer when I go to the Lane. Most weekends that we're away I stick a tenner on an accumulator or anyother bet that looks interesting to keep me interested through soccer Saturday. Been a bit of a dry spell for me so far this season, I've not had a single accumulator come in and a few minor wins(wish I put my money where my mouth is for the 'pool game) So anyway, gamblers post up your various bets and any good/bad stories you have. My best bet was my first ever. I bet on Italy to win the 2006 World Cup, I was only 18 so the £80 I won felt like a fortune. I got cold feet a week after placing the bet and put a fiver on France so I was really quite relaxed for the final My worst bet really should've been my best, I had Liverpool to win 3-0 against PSV with Gerrard scoring first at 100/1. After Gerrard got the opener and Liverpool went two up I went online to put a 4-0 saver on and saw my betting slip on the right with the place bet button unpressed. I nearly cried at the full time whistle I'm avoiding accumulators like the plague tomorrow. £10 on West Brom/West Brom @6/4 and a couple of quid on Arteta to score against his old club and a 2-0 result @40/1. If I get any change out of that I'll go for Madrid in El Classico.
we used to have a William in the same building as my old work. I'd walk past it 3 times a day, each time looking at the example bet in the window. In 5 years, only 1 bet took my fancy. I think it was Leicester(??) vs Man City in one of the cups and the bet was for Man City to win 3-1 and Sibierski to score first. The example gave a £10 bet returning something like £900. I had a £10 note in my pocket! However, i was also quite hungry, what with it being lunch and all, so i went and got a sandwich and forgot all about the bet. I remembered just before kick off and decided to put my mind at rest by following the score on teletext. Sibierski scores first! ****! Leicester score, thats the 1 they need. BUGGER! Then all goes quiet. I'm feeling confident that i've saved £10. Its like 10pm by the teletext clock, surely its finished and they've forgotten to update the page? 1-2, Man City score. Fuuuuuuck. But its ok, that goal is showing as 90" and going by the clock they must be deep into injury time. 1-3! **** the bed. Bloody Anelka too, who i still hated from his Arsenal days. Most expensive sandwich ever? I've still got no idea why that particular bet caught my eye either.
I like to do spread bets. One that I've had a great deal of success with is selling the time of the earliest goal (or try) in seconds in the Rugby/Football World Cups or the football European championships. For the world cup it usually trades at around 90 seconds before the tournament starts and there is a really good chance that a much quicker goal will be scored during the 64 matches. It is a very safe bet because it only moves a few seconds up after each match with no early goal so you can close out a very small loss any time. I got a bit lucky a couple of world cups ago when I let it run all the way to the 3rd place final (with a big loss by then) and there was a goal very early on (around 10 secs if I remember rightly). Currently I am well up on my 'Championship Index' bet on Spurs. I bought at 8 and it's now trading 23-26 so the profit is 15x my stake so far. This implies we finish above 4th as the index awards 20 points for 4th place.
I do about 5/6 different bets over the weekend. Usually do a £3 accumalator on about 6/7 teams (though that varies depending on what teams are involved and whether they're home/away etc). Then do about a fiver on Spurs to win and then depending on who we're playing, a first scorer and correct score bet on Spurs too and then just see if anything takes my fancy. Do a few horse bets during the week too just to make my day a bit more interesting... Or more frustrating should I say, as I my win ratio must be like 1 in 20
If I ever bet on Spurs games, it's always against Spurs so that I win whatever - if we win the game I'm happy, if we lose at least I won the bet.
SoS, I'm prone to the odd bet on the horses too. I always like a trip to the dogs with friends too, it's a good way to start a night out, especially if you win a few quid. I don't think I could ever do that. I usually only bet to up my boozing money a bit and when we lose I usually have a sulk and don't really feel like going out drinking.
I saw you were last commented and I thought, I bet he's a gambler... which probably explains my losses
I don't often bet on sports but maybe I should if my last bet is anything to go by. Took advantage of the bet365 offer on the CL final, bet £50 and get £50 free bet. I placed £50 on Barca to win, a formality.... With the free bet I was about to go for Messi as first scorer at 3/1 I think, but instead opted for Pedro at 8/1. Few minutes later he was slotted through expertly by Xavi and put the first goal away. I thought it was Villa for a split second before the commentator shouted "Pedroooo".. Love it
Don't talk to me about gambling I went to a local evening meet on my birthday, the missus arranged it. Anyway, she knows a horse has 4 legs and thats about it! She goes through the card based on pretty coloured tops and anything to do with Ireland, she even picked one with a womens lib angle being the only woman rider and she fukin won aswell Me, 5 out of 6 last places, and in the 6th, a 3 horse race!, I did actually pick the winner....who was then disqualified for dangerous riding and given a ban. Thus promoting the missus only 2nd place to first.....happy birthday!
Notso that's a pretty tragic sequence of events. I hope the missus treated you accordingly later in the evening at least
5 out of 6 last places! Was this the horse?
