Who thinks this is a good idea and who thinks we will do the same? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19716087 on account that this http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19966820 makes us look even more stupid considering what we've had to endure the last few seasons.
I'm not sure I like this idea. From a personal point of view as I have not been a season ticket holder for a few years, I used to like turning up to matches knowing what I was going to pay which used to be about £23. Now with all this different grading of games puts me off, because I know that unless I get tickets early I turn up not knowing what price I'm going to pay for a match!! Overcomplicating prices puts people off. You want options to encourage as many people as possible i.e concessions/student prices but keep changing the prices around for different games, it puts people off!!
I'm not sure how we can justify our current pricing strategy compared with the quality of the product. Overall attendances are falling and this could help get more inside the stadium. It will obviously piss off those who like to go on a whim or just turn up on the day but I'm sure there are a lot of fans out there who don't go because they think it's either not worth the money or who simply can't afford the ridiculously high prices we charge.
The problem here is we are never going to sell 30,000 tickets. If the demand is high the price goes up... but if the demand is low (empty stadium) then you're staying at £10 a ticket and losing ****loads of money. Better would be a system where the price is the same for everyone based on the attendance. If 30,000 seats are filled its a tenner for everyone, if 25,000 are filled it's £15 and so on. Would be a bugger to administrate but that's the model that would make the most sense for Ipswich at the moment.
Perhaps it could work by paying the maximum price for your first ticket and then discounting the next one you buy based on the attendance of the ticket stub you have (or the price recorded in the database you paid).
If we can't sell 30000 tickets what was the point in increasing the stadium size? It's something we are still paying the price for more than ten years down the road and would we even fill PR if we were in the prem? With the way we price tickets I doubt many could afford to go after the inevitable price hike that would come with promotion.
