With Brucie starting with the same back 5 at Hartlepool last tuesday and at Hibs today does it indicate that Anton will partner Brown at the heart of the defence next week? Anton gets some unfair stick and it might be someone like Brown who has been there done it got the t-shirt to help bring out Anton's potential, on his day like Bolton away last season he was outstanding we just need more of those days on a consistant basis. If he starts I for one won't be concerned
I will be concerned if anton is playing. Too many mistakes & lapses in concentration. If he was going to eradicate this he would have done it by now. He's just not good enough in my opinion.
I think Anton gets a lot of unfair criticism...It seems that many of our fans have an unyielding need for a scapegoat.
That's your opinion mate and it's just as valid as mine. I just don't think he's up to it and should be moved on. Obviously theres been no takers for him as I imagine he's on a canny wage and I'm guessing the club would have sold him if possible
I wouldn't be too upset to be fair and I think at the end of last season, he was a far better defender that Mensah IMO. We need a good squad and Anton seems to be someone who always talks up his time with Sunderland, despite the rumours and lack of game time. He does get some unfair stick and as mentioned above, with an experienced campaigner like Brown alongside him, I think he could do a job when called upon.
I've always been against giving players stick when they pull on a red and white shirt, and try to be objective when judging. However, I dont mind having Anton in the squad but he should not be 1st choice imo. He can be excellent for 2 or 3 games and i will be saying "he has finally sorted his concentration" then BAM he does it again. he has been like this since he has been here, and i have given up on him sorting it out. If he starts i wont be getting on his back, but i would see him as a weak link.
No offence, but anyone who actually thinks anton has had unfair criticism can't have a clue about football. I don't actually mean to cause offence by saying that, but it's true.

You know what, the lad is only 26 and hes come in from a lot of stick since hes been here but to be fair hes given all to the club so I think he could come good this season and I am glad we have kept him, C'mon Anton lad!
The thing is, although anton seems commited to the club, he isn't a premier league defender. He's lived of his brothers name, and got paid very well for it. He is very poor positionally, lazy, lathargic, never ever gets stuck in, basically a strikers dream. I hope he does well this year for us, but I don't think you can give someone a footballing brain.
