I found this on one of the West Ham blogs via newsnow. All I can say is they have not seen McCartney play for the last three years. but if they want to make the mistake we did and buyhim on his previous performances let them. Anton Ferdinand and/or George McCartney to Return? There were rumours circulating yesterday that we are on the verge of signing another defender. The two names in the frame are Anton Ferdinand (possibly on loan) and/or George McCartney. It is always a good idea to treat these rumours with a certain degree of skepticism, but their acquisition does fit in with Sam Allardyceâs recruitment strategy this summer. Both players are from the same club (Sunderland), have played at West Ham previously and should hopefully settle very quickly as a result. For me, Anton Ferdinand is a central defender who has ability, but it is often undermined by poor positional sense and lapses of concentration. He left West Ham for a sizable fee, but has never really settled in the north-east. I also get the impression that Anton is very much a confidence player. A bit like Bobby Zamora, he needs encouragement and a certain degree of nurturing. His best season at the club was undoubtedly 2005-06, when he formed such a good central defensive partnership with Danny Gabbidon. Anton looked really confident that season and it showed in his imperious play. If the master motivator, Sam Allardyce, can get him playing to his potential, and help iron out some of the faults in his game, then he could be a good signing. George McCartney, you will remember, left in difficult circumstances. In his case, he wanted to return to the North-East and his former club, Sunderland. McCartney did a very good job at West Ham. He came in to the side in 2006-07 and was an unsung hero in the âGreat Escape.â McCartney then went on to have an outstanding 2007-08 season, as Alan Curbishleyâs side achieved a ten half PL finish. However, his sale, at the start of 2008-09 season, was the catalyst that led to Alan Curbishleyâs resignation and the arrival of Zola at the club. Like Ferdinand, his move to Sunderland has not really worked out and, last season, he was loaned out to Leeds Utd. McCartney is a good, solid left-back. I am not sure how much he has lost over the last couple of seasons, but yet again, if he can get back to form it could be a decent move.
Jersey. I agree but he obviously did well for them, so with a bit if luck they might even pay us so money to take him away
Yeah, I read that one. One teams ****e is another team's great white hope. Still if they're daft enough to want him, then just to get rid of him send him away on a free. (don't think there would be too many howls of protest from the fans, do you?)
Would sell McCartney in a flash With Anton though I would like us to offer him a new contract, he is a good player to have in the squad when there are injuries and he never let's anyone down. If we are to let him go we need to bring someone in
The best 'in a nutshell' comment I've ever heard -yes ^this, + his timing for tackles/crosses was a bit off sometimes, then next game he'd not put a foot/head out of place all game ...I bet we won't get 9 million for him -you reading this, eh Roy? By all accounts, he was at the 'Ammers - another Keano deadwood disaster - yer fookin muppetnugget yer!
I think Anton is vastly underrated and I fancy him to have a big season for us this year... McCartney on the other hand!
