From F & H Chronicle """" QPR defender told he has to stay By Paul WarburtonJan 18 2013 Anton FerdinandHARRY Redknapp reckons Anton Ferdinand is going nowhere â not least because the QPR boss admits he may be short of central defenders come March. Thatâs when the manager has agreed to let in-form Ryan Nelsen leave and take up a job as coach/player with MLS outfit FC Toronto. Redknapp finally admitted he was prepared to let one of the few success stories of a struggling season leave before his contract is up in June, and made it plain he needs out-of-favour Ferdinand to plug the gap. The manager said: âAnton played the other night at West Brom, and Iâm short of central defenders in terms of cover especially when Nelsen goes.â But the Rangers boss indicated Djibril Cissé has almost certainly played his last game for the club. The striker, signed just 12 months ago for £4million, is expected to join for Qatar side Al-Gharafa in the next few days, with Redknapp pleased the Frenchman will get to play abroad â as well as take a hefty wedge out of the Hoopsâ wage bill. He said: âIt looks like Cissé is going. That will give him a chance to get playing again, and get us out of a lot of wages." """"""
Sorry to stir the pot again but it's still not clear to me why Nelson is being allowed to leave before the end of the season. Redknapp is meant to be 100% focused on keeping QPR in the Premier League and that surely means keeping hold of your best defender is a priority. There is still no sign that the player has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave early so this smacks of an old pals act rather than a decision based on QPR's best interests. We deserve to know the facts Mr Fernandez.
I agree. Hopefully we'll be getting at least one quality quick CB this month. I think Forren may still not have signed for Saints, and think he would be good as backup at least.
Sadly it is how things are these days. What does Harry do if he insists on Nelsen staying, plays him when there is no interest anymore and he contributes to us losing games? I think if any player wants away then you let him go, if not there is a chance that their lack of effort bites the team in the arse. Its either that or you have them training with the youth squad until they get bored and leave or you can off-load them. I'd love to think that there is loyalty and every player gives 100% every game no matter what other offers are around but the reality is that power is in the hands of players and managers can't make someone do their best. Looking on other threads it could be that Odemwingie wants away from West Brom, can Steve Clarke trust that he will put in a shift in after asking for a transfer? Nelsen always comes across as a decent sort but he's obviously had a sit down with Harry and worked out an exit plan.
I think your last statement is probably right, but I find it hard to imagine Nelsen not giving 100% even if he were told he had to see his contract out.
From Turkish football. com! """"""""""" Bursaspor have been linked with out of favor QPR defender Anton Ferdinand. The Green Crocodiles have been working closely with football agent companies operating in the Premier League recently. Bursaspor signed Scott Carson from West Bromwich, sold Alfred N'Diaye to Sunderland and have just completed the signing of Maurice Edu from Stoke City within the space of a season. Ferdinand has struggled for playing time recently and is yet to make a Premier League appearance this year. The 27-year-old defender joined QPR from Sunderland last season for €1.1 million """"""
although I am not a Ferdinand fan, I think we need to keep hold of him to the end of the season because we are short of central defenders. he did show against WBA the other night that it is possible for him to come in and have a good game if needed.
Unfortunetly if a player decides to retire from the game he can leave with immediate effect i believe.
Anton is one of those players I'd like to keep in the squad because we are short on CBs, but pray that he doesn't get a game.
My understanding too. Probably has a management release clause too. Both sides being reasonable is no crime and we've had the whole window to deal with the future loss of a player with glass ankles and knees who has already played more games than anyone would have guessed. Also, it's not his fault that his consistency, commitment, leadership, aerial dominance and lack of pace make the others look patchy. If we can't replace a 35 year old freebie then we really are in the poop. Sad he's leaving but nothing but warm wishes and respect for a heart on sleeve pro from me.
