Nigel Pearson has said he is hopeful Anthony Knockaert will sign a new contract. http://m.leicestermercury.co.uk/Nig...ockaert-stay/story-26274120-detail/story.html
He´s the 1st one in readiness for next seasons challenge. NP knows he needs to keep as many in this squad as pos, unless we can temp a top manager or NP wants to go, I think he´ll stay on. More money will be spent next season & this seasons relegation will be a blessing in disguise.
Find this interesting. Given he hasn't been good enough this year to me it means that he is good enough for the championship next season and we will loose others that are keeping him out of the side.
Maybe try actually letting him on the pitch? He's better than some of the dross we've been playing so far. I'm not saying Knockaert's the answer to all our problems, but he's got to be worth a shot?
i agree - get him on the pitch more! But i cant see him signing an extension - why would he? Tbf, his career would be much better working up to the top in the french leagues and then coming back to england
Parachute payment, the need to get a prem team to play in the prem & experience (all round). If a team like LC can´t learn from this season then... Our owners ain´t going any where soon & they´ll want to get back in the prem so they´ll have learnt alot from this season & go about things differently when we go back up. I hope that clears my comment up Weller.
Very true Ed but going back to my original post AK, if he signs, is a step to keep much of the squad together for next season. I know the whole of this squad won´t be at LC next term, we´ll lose a few top players no doubt & I so hope we get rid of our ´old slow DEF & a few that just simply arn´t prem player. That´s where our money comes in. Mind you we need to buy players better that we are getting rid of, goes without saying. Looking at the championship this season, WOW, it´s close & next season will be the same but IF things go the way I hope we´ll be back.
Need him to sign cause i think Mahrez will be off to a mid table prem club in the summer, gunna struggle to keep some of the better performers.
Would be the natural and ready-made (quality) replacement for mahrez, but from HIS point of view there is no benefit to staying with us
He's younger than Mahrez! Been around so long it's easy to forget, and I'd like to think he's not done with this club yet.
I would LOVE him to stay. But all im saying is, if you were him, would you stay at a club that hasnt played you or go abroad to a team who are better and play, progress and probably then go on to bigger things?
You have to be realistic as a professional. Although he'll never say it, he is likely aware that his performances haven't been good at this level. In the championship however, he knows he'll be picked most weeks, and hopefully he'll develop enough next season to be able to take on the Premiership the season after (obviously our aim should we be relegated). In a way, and purely from a selfish standpoint, he's probably hoping we do get relegated, otherwise he may have to move. Regarding moving to "a team who are better", let's be clear about this; it's not that we're not good enough for Knockaert, it's that Knockaert hasn't been good enough for us (this season). If he's not good enough for us, he won't be good enough for a better team.
I agree - and whilst he wouldnt be good enough for a premiership side - i mean 'better' by a bigger club in a foreign league. Look at the team he is rumoured to be off to - standard leige was it? I may be wrong but they place in a poor league, but complete in the europa league i think and probably would be good enough to start there and are actually a better team than us. That style of league would give him more time and space on the ball and is less physical which would allow him to progress and get better quicker than in the english championship, in my opinion. I do want him to stay, but without blue-tinted glasses i do feel like he would be better to move.
In fairness to Knockaert he hasn't been given enough of a chance. If we had been winning most weeks then he could understand but for most of the season we have been struggling for goals and losing so he should have been given more of a chance then he has
Knockaert scored the goal that got us into the play offs He scored that goal that beat Sheffield Wednesday that pretty much sealed promotion Its written
I woudn't be too upset if he didn't sign if we're talking football, but i'll be gutted on a personal note. He's a bit of a cult hero.
