Another game is lurking so here's Bristol City fan Mark Fry answering some of our questions ahead of tonight's clash on SOD's thinking. please log in to view this image What's gone wrong for Bristol City this season? Itâs been a strange one, we started very brightly, both scoring and conceding a lot of goals then the goals dried up but sadly the conceding part continued. We have far too large a squad and McInnes didnât really know his best 11 at any point. Weâve been unlucky with injuries but thereâs certainly a lack of quality on certain areas of the park... You've spent a lot of money, reportedly. Are you worried about financial problems if you go down? Most of the money has been spent on the new stadium, the wage bill is pretty large - reportedly about £18M a year but I donât see that being the case if weâre relegated. We have a wonderful majority shareholder who will not let us suffer. So in short â no, Iâm not worried. What chance do you have of staying up? I still have hope, itâs a daft league and if we put together a string of results we have every chance. Realistically, itâs a big ask. What are your thoughts on Palace this season? Palace have come out of nowhere havenât they! Theyâve been superb to watch at times, Glenn Murray has been a revelation. Old Gashead Holloway has you playing very slick attacking football. In terms of the best footballing sides Iâve seen this season Palace, Leicester and Cardiff certainly deserve to be going up. How will Brizzle likely line up on Tuesday? Now thereâs a question... Heaton should start as he is the best keeper we have. I would hope Cunningham and Moloney at full back, Fontaine and Nyatanga have been the centre backs of choice lately. Adomah and Anderson on the wings with probably Kelly and Elliot of Pearson through the middle. Baldock is still injured so Davies and Stead up front. That could have several changes to it though as we have so many players to choose from!] Which players should we look out for? Adomah is always dangerous when he turns up. Davies as well is capable of scoring from nowhere. Youâll probably be seeing much more of the defenders though I fear... Prediction? Palace to win by maybe 2 or 3. But then again we have a decent record against the teams at the top of the table, so who knows It is the Championship after all! http://www.fiveyearplanfanzine.co.uk/Guest-Blog-Content/from-the-other-side-bristol-city-h-2013.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The answers sort of highlight the overall condition of Bristol City, regrettably. The failure to concentrate on due diligence after our first heady season in this division has come back to haunt us in a terrible way. Was there no-one at Ashton Gate who was able to see the gradual erosion of our team when it was plainly obvious to those paying to watch our demise from the terraces? Bringing in so many different players was never going to be the answer but instead it added to our wage bill and created a financially irresponsible environment that has left us unable to bring in any strength that isn't free. Players must be shuddering in their boots at the mere mention that they may be transferred to Ashton Gate knowing the defeatist attitude that thrives down in BS3. Sean has inherited an extremely sad situation that is virtually unchangeable at this late stage and any belief that he can conjure up miracles once the almost inevitability of relegation raises it's ugly head in the next few weeks. The happenings over the last 4 years is an insult to the loyal fans of BCFC. Totally avoidable but nobody saw it coming, except us.
The problem has been for years we have not been able to sign decent CB's on a full time basis we were able to get loanees but noone we wanted wanted to come here at a price we were prepared to pay, Yes we could have got Keogh at a very inflated price but he wasn't worth that much at least IMHO.
