town have today signed tom eaves from bolton on a 1 month loan. aged 21 tom has been on loan earlier with the gas where he scored several games. town had him watched , when he scored for bolton reserves v norwich reserves. welcome tom, a great addition to omister porter. well done graham. floreat salopia!
http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/197708-tom-eaves-striker AJ posted question on Rovers board. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Eaves http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21533022 Seems like a good signing
lets not get too carried away, remember our last bunch of loanee's, its allright saying he done well at the gas but he's got to fit in, and yet again he's only here for an initial month, and too many loanee's do destabilise the rest of the team!!
GT should start with Porter and Eaves - hopefully that will make Rodgers and Morgan raise their game a bit. With two good headers of the ball upfront we may need to play a little more direct and it is essential we get some good crosses in.
Another loanee. This would never have happened if the club was owned by supporters. We could have been signing aged crocks like Lee Trundle.
OT but how exactly do you pronounce Shrewsbury. I've heard Brits call it both Shroosbury and Shrowsbury ?
hi welcome, shrewsbury is pronounced both ways for no particular reason. shrowsbury comes from to early names for the town, sciropesbury and shrozebury. i always call it shrozebury, and i suppose it grates on me to hear it pronounced shrew. it probably grates, vice versa. the town is an historic medieval borough with loads of history and well worth a visit. sadly there will always be 2 ways of saying shrewsbury. many thanks for your interest. adios amigo! and floreat salopia-let shrewsbury flourish!
Thank you, I don't have to worry about mispronouncing it then haha I have actually driven through Shrewsbury in the past, will be sure to make a proper visit next time. Thanks for the reply
Personally I say Shroozbury and the vast majority of people in Shropshire will say that and try to tell you that it's the only way to say it! I believe that it originates from the Domesday book, before which the town was called Shroesbury but was misspelled and so became Shrewsbury.
Thank you, I think whenever there is a reason to say it I'll see how the person I am talking to pronounces it so I don't irritate them haha
mmmm, oh! you mean that supporter led team that's sixteen points clear at the top of their league?.....well, i don't suppose it would really matter that much to them who they got at this stage of the season would it? ..and i wonder how that other supporter led team, you know the one between us and Chester, they're doing pretty well by all accounts too...
i think shrozebury will be heard 7 times out of 10 outside shrewsbury. perhaps being born in college hill i was born a little too close to kingsland. i suspect we pronounce shrewsbury the way our parents did. it is handed down i rest my case on shrozebury and sciropesburie. floriat salopia! roland and graham rule ok. come on you shrows!
Have I missed something. These are obviously both successful League One teams which is the only criteria to compare them with Shrewsbury. If we had stuck with the Loggerheads we would still have been a struggling League 2 team or worse. Lenny is our saviour.
i have discovered another reason for shrew and shrow-old english spelling of show was shew. spelt shew, pronounced show! qed. come on you shrows! hasta la vista and adios amigo!
